What are the best FC 24 formations? Well, that’s one question we’re all asking as we boot up Ultimate Team. If you’re looking to take on Division Rivals and the Weekend League, you’re going to need to make sure you’re using one of the best FC 24 formations at the moment to really take advantage of your players. Of course, skill does come into things a little bit; however, having the right tactics and the correct formation really does set you up for success.
While you’re making sure you have the best FC 24 starter team available, this guide will help you work out how to shape that team. Here, you’ll find the best formations to use in FC 24 – so you can focus more on taking advantage of the best FC 24 Ultimate Team Evolutions upgrades – and why they’re worth using.
FC 24 best formations
The best FC 24 formations for Ultimate Team are:
- 4-2-2-2
- 4-3-2-1
- 4-1-2-1-2 (2)
We know every formation has its pros and cons, but we’re going to dive into how you can make the most of each of these formations. At the end of the day, though, personal preference does come into play. That and the meta, of course – which we expect to evolve as the game grows. So, we recommend checking out all of these at some point soon and see which one suits your style of play more.
We also recommend seeing whether you can build a squad using your best players in a specific formation before you barrel into buying players – you can test your lineups with the Futwiz EA FC 24 squad builder.
4-2-2-2
The first formation we want to talk about is the 4-2-2-2. With two CDMs, two CAMs, and two strikers, you’re going to be covered centrally and going forward. If you have the best FC 24 CAM options in your squad, you should find that you’re still able to play it wide – even without wingers.
As content creator ‘NealGuides‘ explains, you’re going to want to keep your Defensive Style Balanced, 45 to 50 Width, and around 39 Depth. This will stop your CDMs from pressing and leaving gaps behind, maintaining the strong defensive line. When it comes to attacking, though, you’re going to want to use Long Ball or Slow Build Up – anything that means you can effectively get the ball to your CAMs. There are also a few Instructions worth checking out, if you want to fine-tune your strategy; you can check those out below:
Whether you have the best FC 24 CDM options or not, the close proximity of this paring in the middle is going to make any sort of direct attacks from your opponents a nightmare. If you’re a little leaky at the back, this one’s for you.
4-3-2-1
If you fancy yourself an attacking player and you have some of the fastest FC 24 players at your disposal, then 4-3-2-1 is the formation for you. This gives you a flat-three midfield, which you can adapt to be more defensive minded or attacking focused as you see fit, and three forwards. So, this is where those of you with the best FC 24 strikers need to be looking.
As ‘Inception FC‘ explains, you’re going to want to keep this formation narrow, but quite forward. This is going to keep your midfield tight, but allow them to support your strikers – of which you have two CF and one ST. From here, it’s recommended that you choose one fullback to Overlap (when giving Run Type instructions), and one to Stay Back While Attacking. This gives you a bit of width, while also converting your defence to a back three when going forward. You’re going to need to take advantage of some of the best FC 24 CB options here, though, as you’re at risk of being counter-attacked.
That being said, this really is a great formation if you want to just overwhelm your opponent with goals. It’s high risk, high reward. If that isn’t what Ultimate Team is about, we don’t know what is.
4-1-2-1-2 (2)
Another narrow formation worth considering is the infamous 4-1-2-1-2 (2). If you have a lot of midfielders, this is perfect for you. It lets you play around with a CDM, two CMs, and a CAM – all while giving you two striking options. Sure, you might not be able to take full advantage of the best FC 24 wingers with this one, but it’s worth checking out each players’ alternative positions. You never know who might fit into these positions.
How do you set this up, though? Well, as content creator ‘ViTal Rema‘ highlights, you’re going to want to keep your Width around 40 and your Depth on 47. This should force your players into a passive pressing that will help you win the ball back in the midfield. However, you’re going to want to make sure you’re not playing too narrow – as ironic as that might sound – while using this narrow formation. So, that’s why you’re going to want to tell your strikers to Stay Central and one of your fullbacks on Overlap.
If you have some of the best FC 24 CM options in your squad, you should still find freedom in the wider areas. However, this formation will require some accurate passing. If you can pull that off, you should find you’re overwhelming your opponents with ease.
Why does using the best FC 24 formation matter?
Well, if you’re looking to climb to the top of Division Rivals and earn all the best rewards when the FC 24 Weekend League start date rolls around, then you’re going to need to take full advantage of what your players bring to the table. It’s not necessarily going to be easy, but having a strong FC 24 chemistry really is only a fraction of the fight.
Formations in FC 24 can be as complex or as simple as you like, though, in truth. There are benefits to leaving Player Instructions as-is and picking a 4-4-2. However, something more nuanced and a little more complicated really does force FC 24 into doing most of the work for you. Let FC 24 make the runs and open up the space, while you pick the pass and score the goal.
