Like last year’s game, there is no definitive ‘best player’ in FC 24, with the top rating of 91 shared by Haaland, Mbappe, De Bruyne, and Putellas. Looking down the list, there are some nice upgrades in particular for Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham and Vini Jr., as well as Barcelona Femení’s Aitana Bonmatí.
You can find a more comprehensive run-down of the top ten players in FC 24 below, including insight into why they are where they are on the ratings list.
Kylian Mbappé (Paris Saint-Germain) – 91
Although Mbappé’s World Cup campaign didn’t conclude with the Frenchman lifting the most coveted trophy in world soccer, he more than made his mark on the historic tournament by claiming the top scorer spot with eight goals to his name.
With PSG, Mbappé continued his prolific goal-scoring form, netting 29 times in 34 games en route to picking up yet another Ligue 1 title. This was topped off by a top-class Champions League performance in which he scored seven goals in eight games. Though the 2022/23 season was not filled with silverware for Mbappé, he remains one of the most lethal forwards in the world as he begins to enter the peak years of his career.
Alexia Putellas (Barcelona Femení) – 91
Alexia Putellas faced a gruelling journey back to fitness last year after a devastating ACL injury ruled her for most of the season. However, the back-to-back Women’s Ballon d’Or winner is still widely-regarded as the best in the world when it comes to the women’s game. On her day, the Spaniard is absolutely unstoppable no matter where she is on the pitch.
Erling Haaland (Manchester City) – 91
Erling Haaland not only broke the Premier League record for most goals scored in a single season (36) and won the treble with City this year, but he is also the EA FC 24 cover star – it’s no wonder he’s sharing the top spot with De Bruyne, Messi, and Mbappé with a 91 overall.
Haaland has had an absolutely disgusting season, and the young Norwegian still has plenty of room to grow in his game. A young superstar in his ascendancy, we fully expect that Haaland will have the highest potential in the game alongside Mbappé when it comes to Career Mode, with plenty of top-tier cards on the horizon in Ultimate Team to boot.
Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) – 91
Erling Haaland may get all the plaudits for his exemplary goalscoring record last season, but Kevin de Bruyne has consistently constituted the heart of Pep Guardiola’s midfield – and for good reason.
De Bruyne is universally recognized as an absolute baller, and at the age of 32 his performances – be it in the Premier League or the Champions League – continue to mature like the finest Belgian beer. As such, we’re unsurprised he hasn’t declined from the 91 overall rating he’s held since FIFA 19.
Aitana Bonmatí (Barcelona Femení) – 90
If there’s anyone capable of taking Alexia Putellas’ Women’s Ballon d’Or crown this year, it’s teammate Aitana Bonmatí. Having just received the gong for UEFA Women’s Player of the Year, the Spaniard went on an absolute hot streak last season, playing a crucial role in both Barcelona’s UEFA Women’s Champions League victory, and Spain’s lifting of the FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy.
Lionel Messi (Inter Miami) – 90
Lionel Messi may not have the same legs he did in his prime Barca years, but the undisputed GOAT not only managed to revive his PSG career this year, but finally shut down those who claimed he’d never be able to perform at his best on the world’s biggest stage. Though Mbappé scooped up the accolade for most goals, Messi matched him in terms of combined goals and assists (ten). And of course, the Argentine lifted the World Cup in Qatar, as Mbappé’s France looked on as runner-up.
A move to a weaker league like the MLS, as Messi has done with Inter Miami, usually means a downgrade for a player’s rating, but after the season he just had, it’s clear why EA has only given him a light tap.
Sam Kerr (Chelsea) – 90
2023 was a great year for Sam Kerr domestically, as the Aussie led Chelsea to a sixth domestic FA Women’s Super League title. Notching up 12 goals and five assists for the Blues, Kerr perhaps wasn’t as prolific in front of goal statistically as previous seasons, though after that goal against England in the Women’s World Cup, it’s clear that her quality hasn’t diminished one iota.
Karim Benzema (Al-Ittihad Club) – 90
2022 Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema has made like Messi and moved away from Europe’s top leagues coming into the 2023/24 season. Big Benz may not have finished his final season in LaLiga enshrouded in silverware, but there remain few forwards who can match his output.
Having chalked up 19 goals in 24 appearances, it’s clear that Benzema’s shooting boots haven’t weathered, despite his diminishing minutes on the pitch. If well-managed in Saudi, the Frenchman should continue to showcase exactly why he’s deserving of his overall rating.
Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid) – 90
There’s not much to say about Thibaut Courtois that hasn’t already been said. The Belgian shot-stopper has been consistently brilliant since making the move to the Bernabeu, despite taking a season or so to really find his gloves. As such, a 90 rating overall for the second season running is, quite literally, on the cards.
Harry Kane (Bayern Munich) – 90
Few teams last season escaped being Kane’d, and the then-talisman of Tottenham almost matched Haaland’s goalscoring output in the Premier League, despite traditionally occupying deeper spaces in Spurs’ formation.
A man at the height of his powers, Kane is a truly complete forward – something we’ve seen from him over the years, regardless of whether he’s been in the white jerseys of Spurs or England. Now at Bayern, he’s continuing to prove why he’s one of the best of the best.
