We love the smell of sizzling Automatons in the morning, well that’s if we could smell them, of course. Helldivers 2 doesn’t hold back when it comes to decimating these unrelenting robotic foes, and even the strongest Stratagems don’t always get the job done. Now, PS5 players can deploy into battle with two brand-new weapons, as Arrowhead Game Studios encourages you to take the power back.
Following Helldivers 2‘s ban of certain bedroom activities, the galaxy needs the community to step up more than ever. In a recent social media post, Arrowhead details that “Helldivers, support has arrived. The LAS-99 Quasar Cannon and the MG-101 Heavy Machine Gun are available now for use against the Automaton horde.” New weapons for the hit co-op game have been teased recently by the studio, like the potential arrival of a badass mini-gun, but we couldn’t have imagined anything quite like the LAS-99 Quasar Canon.
We deployed into battle immediately after these weapons went live, and this is one serious piece of kit. In our fight against the Automatons, we were able to take down a full troop carrier with the Quasar Canon in just one shot, much to our immense satisfaction. Typically, achieving this result is done with the RL-112 Recoilless Rifle, so it’s great to have another alternative available in Arrowhead’s thriving multiplayer game.
On the other hand, the MG-101 Heavy Machine Gun is essentially a beefier version of the Stalwart. Reloading can be difficult during the heat of battle, but the weapon’s firepower is particularly useful for mowing down hordes of weaker Automatons.
Fighting the Terminid scourge with these weapons isn’t proving to be quite as fruitful just yet, but we’re sure with some experimentation these weapons will shine against those pesky bugs. Whether these fresh Stratagems can make a difference in the overall war, well, part of that will be down to our favorite game master Joel.
If you’ve noticed your progression in Helldivers 2 isn’t working as intended, then Arrowhead is aware of the situation. While more meaningful fixes are implemented into one of the best PS5 games around, there are other threats to be aware of on the battlefield. Sightings of flying enemies are becoming more frequent, and despite recent nerfs, Mother Nature itself can prove to be quite troublesome.
In other gaming news, you can play Rockstar’s shiny new Red Dead Redemption port for just $6 with this workaround, and April’s PS Plus games include a very divisive magical shooter.
