One of the main activities you’ll be doing while slaying demons and saving Sanctuary will be delving into Diablo 4 dungeons. Dungeons offer an arena for focused action as you make your way through these tightly designed locations and complete the objectives for valuable spoils. This guide will go over all the Diablo 4 dungeons, their locations, the dungeon aspects, and the other valuable rewards you will get for completing these activities.
Diablo 4 dungeons are the perfect opportunity to test out your builds, so whether you’re using our best Diablo 4 Sorcerer build, Diablo 4 Necromancer build, or any other character, dive into the fray. The Nightmare variant dungeons are also a core feature of the Diablo 4 endgame, so it’s worth knowing all you can before the Diablo 4 release date.
Diablo 4 dungeons explained
Dungeons in Diablo 4 are repeatable activities located around the map with varied objectives to complete before concluding in a boss fight for rewards. Dungeons can be completed either solo or in a group.
They are instanced activities so you will not run into random players like the overworld. With over 120 dungeons in Diablo 4, there’s a lot of variety on offer and a lot of different dungeon locations to keep an eye out for. They are marked on your map with a gate icon. Each dungeon location will drop a different aspect, so it’s worth finding out where each aspect drops if you’re hunting for a specific aspect for one of the Diablo 4 classes.
Always stay vigilant though, as one of the Diablo 4 bosses can actually invade you during dungeon runs. In Diablo 4, The Butcher makes a return as a deadly random elite boss that can spawn in dungeons if you are lucky enough (or, rather unlucky) to have him spawn. If you manage to beat him, he will have a chance of dropping his unique weapon, The Butcher’s Cleaver.
Read on for more details on all the Diablo 4 dungeons, their locations, and their aspects for each region of the Diablo 4 map.
All Diablo 4 dungeons locations
There are around 120 Diablo 4 dungeon locations found across all the regions of Sanctuary:
- 23 dungeons – Fractured Peaks
- 20 dungeons – Dry Steppes
- 25 dungeons – Scosglen
- 24 dungeons – Hawezar
- 22 dungeons – Kehjistan
This information was gathered from our time with the Diablo 4 beta, which gave access to the Codex of Power. The Codex of Power contains all of the aspects you can earn for each class, as well as their respective dungeon drop source. Additional information was also gathered from the various blog posts and videos released by Blizzard covering the game’s systems.
It’s also worth noting that dungeons use a tile-based system and are somewhat randomized. While each dungeon has a unique theme and style, each run of the same dungeon will feel a little different thanks to the randomized layouts. Likewise, each region also has its own unique dungeon style and design.

What are Nightmare dungeons in Diablo 4?
In Diablo 4, Nightmare dungeons are more challenging variants of regular dungeons with additional objectives and modifiers called Afflictions. Nightmare dungeons are accessed upon finding a Nightmare Sigil, with each Sigil corresponding to a specific dungeon location above. As players progress through the Diablo 4 world tiers, more Nightmare dungeons will be unlocked.
To compensate for the increased challenge, Nightmare dungeons will provide higher rarity loot upon completion. This makes them a highly rewarding activity that will occupy players in the endgame as they create their builds and put them to the test.
What are Capstone dungeons in Diablo 4?
Capstone dungeons in Diablo 4 are required to increase your world tier and progress through the game, unlocking new loot and activities as you do so. For example, the Cathedral of Light is the Capstone dungeon in Kyovashad.
Beware though, Capstone dungeons will be harder than regular dungeons you might be used to. They are designed to test your strength before increasing the difficulty as you advance up to another world tier.
That’s everything you need to know about Diablo 4 dungeons, including all the dungeon locations, aspects, and details on the unique Nightmare and Capstone dungeons.
