FromSoftware’s Armored Core 6 is one of the most interesting upcoming Xbox games on the horizon, and one of the numerous upcoming PS5 games worth keeping on your radar, for quite a few good reasons. This rather dramatic trailer is just one fantastic example of that. However, while Elden Ring’s influence on the game’s boss battles is evident, it looks like FromSoft is drawing more on Dark Souls’ combat mechanics when it comes to this upcoming mecha shooter. You’re going to be able to cancel melee attacks in Armored Core 6, a combat mechanic commonplace in Dark Souls but only sporadically seen in Elden Ring.
Ahead of the long-awaited Armored Core 6 release date and any news of an Armored Core 6 demo, ‘Etheox‘ has shared a short snippet of high octane gameplay online that seems to confirm that players will be able to use the Quick Boost dodge ability to cancel melee attacks in Armored Core 6 – something that doesn’t even seem to trigger the cooldown for the melee weapon’s attack.
As you can see below, this seems like this game’s version of attack cancelling – something that allows players to maintain momentum and unpredictability in their assault. In Dark Souls 2, for example, you could use the dodge input to cancel an attack – if you were quick – with almost every weapon. Although it’s sometimes a little harder to do, this is a combat mechanic often seen in soulslike games.
In Elden Ring, however (which is widely regarded as one of the best games of all time), you had to be much more committed to your attacks. If you were trying to attack an enemy, you had to follow through. There are some specific cases where you can cancel certain charged attacks and spells, but it’s far from a common combat mechanic.

So, even though the Armored Core 6 PvP battles are ditching your most reliable ally, you should be able to take advantage of this mechanic more often than not to keep your enemies on their toes.
