Ahead of the long-awaited Armored Core 6 release date, Elden Ring developer FromSoftware has shared a brand new Armored Core 6 story trailer that is so quintessentialy FromSoft. With this being one of the most interesting upcoming PS5 games and one of several unmissable upcoming Xbox games on the horizon, the studio always had to deliver when it comes to a story trailer. However, as exciting as this explosive insight into the events of Armored Core 6 is, this trailer really doesn’t give us a lot at all about what to expect – bar one interesting fan theory, at the moment.
As you can see in the footage below, this fully CGI story trailer offers us a glimpse into the cost of conflict on Rubicon 3 and what that means for Handler Walter and his Hounds. There’s a ruthlessness in the combat, and the Armored Core pilots go as far as to sacrifice themselves to complete the mission.
However, this doesn’t really explain who they’re fighting. It also doesn’t explain what they’re fighting over, why they’re going to such lengths, and what this means for the wider narrative. From information included in a press release, we are quite certian that the player will be undertaking the role of C4-621 – the pilot on the operating table in the trailer. Although, that doesn’t necessarily bode well.

One interesting theory has already spawned online, though, that comments on the fact that it looks like the pilots in Armored Core 6 are going to be a little more involved in making the Armored Core 6 mechs tick than first thought.
If you’re sitting there wondering how a person can even fit inside an Armored Core mech and operate it, Redditor ‘Romapolitan‘ has suggested that “you might be part of the machine”. When you look at the end of the story trailer, the Armored Core mech starts when – supposedly – an ‘upload’ is complete. This has left some thinking that a pilot’s conciousness is actually transfered into the machine’s core – an evolution on the above idea, and one that would help this fit into FromSoft’s recent catalog of games. They all seem to contain some content showcasing supernatural body horror, and this would certainly tick that box.
Is Armored Core 6 going to be one of the best RPG games we’ve ever played? It’s hard to say, but developer FromSoftware does have a reputation of delivering incredible experiences on all platforms. So, we could very-well see this being the best PS5 RPG out there for a while and certainly a contender for the top spot on our list of the best Xbox RPG games. However, only time will tell. As we’ve said before, the trailer is very classically FromSoft. It makes you want to know more, but does little to answer any questions you might already have.
