Gunfights in Ubisoft’s new free-to-play shooter XDefiant are already fun, but there’s still room for skirmishes to get outlandish – in a good way, of course. The game’s factions are the catalyst for that notion, and embracing the more zany franchises under Ubisoft’s belt is on the cards, as an XDefiant Rabbids faction is allegedly headed to the game. Oh, and there are some goodies in there for The Crew fans too.
No, this isn’t a joke, the rabbit-like foes from the Rayman series could appear in XDefiant. Leaker ‘AgainTx’ claims that Year 2 of the game will feature the Rabbids as a playable XDefiant class, alongside an iteration of racing game franchise The Crew. This follows recent leaks for the massive Assassin’s Creed crossover that’s allegedly also in the works for the FPS game.
We’re wondering how these factions will function in-game, and according to the leaker “The Crew will be simple, [the] Rabbids will just be weird.” Furthermore, The Crew XDefiant faction may reportedly incorporate vehicles akin to a fan-favorite Call of Duty killstreak. Players will supposedly be able to use an “RC-XD” to eliminate other players, rather than spawning vehicles into any multiplayer game modes.
That’s a shame because zooming around in a Ferrari would be wild, but rival shooter The Finals may beat XDefiant to the finish line when it comes to vehicles. Sadly, the leaker doesn’t provide information on the Rabbids’ abilities. However, speculatively speaking, we reckon they’ll at least come equipped with a rolling pin to bonk enemies on the head with.
Their appearance, though, is likely to be heavily modified to adhere to the game’s hitboxes, as an enemy that small would be fairly difficult to fight against (it’s giving us flashbacks to Yoda in Star Wars Battlefront 2). The Rabbids first appeared in Rayman Raving Rabbids back in 2006, and have featured in numerous spin-offs since then. They’ve even crossed paths with Mario. Meanwhile, The Crew continues to be a promising franchise for Ubisoft, with The Crew Motorfest ushering in a fresh aesthetic similar to the Forza Horizon series. We even gave it a solid 8/10 in our The Crew Motorfest review.
Until an official confirmation arrives for these exciting factions, we know that Ubisoft is planning to introduce a Search and Destroy style mode, and a fix for the game’s dodgy hit registration is coming soon. You can also brush up on the ever-changing XDefiant meta, and don’t forget your free XDefiant PS Plus pack while you’re at it.
