What is the level cap in Starfield? Bethesda games are known for being huge time sinks, and with that comes the question of a ceiling on leveling. Well, we’ve prepared all you need to know about the Starfield max level so you know if there’s a Starfield level cap that will stop your progression.
Starfield is massive, with heaps of Starfield skills to spend your points on and systems to invest in, such as Starfield ships and Starfield outposts. Even the list of the best Starfield skills is extensive, so you’ll often be in dire need of skill points. A level cap would undoubtedly put a spanner in the works for those looking to invest in everything the game has to offer. During our time with the game for our Starfield review, we’ve learned the ins and outs of leveling in the game, including information on a max level and the best XP to level up quickly.
What is the Starfield level cap?
There is no max Starfield level cap, so you can level indefinitely. Due to this, you will eventually have enough skill points to be able to invest in every skill as there is no cap on leveling and progression.
This is great news for players looking to create the best Starfield builds as there’s essentially no limits to your creativity. In fact, even those who can’t decide on a single playstyle will benefit as you can gain the skills necessary for all playstyles, such as the Physical skill for a stealth or melee build, with the Combat skills tailored towards firearms. All you’ll need to do is find the best Starfield weapons for you and you’ll be good to go.
With a total of 82 skills, each with 4 ranks, unlocking all the skills would require 328 skill points. In other words, you would need to reach level 328 before you can unlock all the skills, essentially finishing the progression system. However, players will still be able to level up.
From our experience, you’re likely to be around level 40 once you’ve finished all the Starfield missions, so you’ll need to invest plenty more time if you want to reach the end of the progression system. Thanks to the unique Starfield New Game Plus system, reaching the higher levels won’t take as long as it might sound, as you’ll be able to reset the missions and therefore earn the quest completion XP again.
Starfield level up explained
To level up in Starfield, you must earn a certain amount of experience (XP) which increases with each level. As such, leveling up takes progressively longer. Completing quests, killing enemies, exploring planets, crafting, and more will reward you with the XP required to level up.
So, if you’re looking to level up quicker, we recommend completing quests and exploring the Starfield planets while you’re at it. The Starfield factions are a particularly good way to level up outside of completing the main story, as there are plenty of groups to join, each with great quests that reward lots of XP. These can also be joined very early on in your playthrough. For example, the Starfield UC Vanguard is introduced right after you join Constellation, just an hour or so into the game. Likewise, you will be directed to Akila city, the home of the Starfield Freestar Collective in the main story as well.
Best Starfield XP farm
The best Starfield XP farm to level up quickly involves hunting fauna on high level planets, such as Masada III. This will reward lots of experience because the enemies are higher level.
Since most of the alien creatures found exploring rely on melee attacks, unlike human enemies that wield guns, you can easily avoid taking damage by strafing and walking backwards. This makes hunting these high level creatures surprisingly simple, despite their high health.
For even more XP, it’s recommended you have the Well Rested buff. This is acquired by sleeping in a bed, giving your character a much better rest than if you sleep in a chair or not at all. This bonus XP won’t last forever though, so you will occasionally have to take another rest in a bed. There should be a bed onboard your ship, so it’s convenient to get the buff before farming XP on the high level planets you visit.
And that’s all you need to know about the Starfield level cap, as well as the best XP farm so you can level up quickly. If you’re attempting to farm XP, then be sure to bring the best Starfield powers with you to help out, as the aliens you encounter will be tanky.
