Here’s how to take advantage of Honkai Star Rail PS5 account linking

Honkai Star Rail is on PS5 now and we have several ways you can avoid issues linking your HoYoverse account with your PSN account when you go to start playing.

At long last, HoYoverse’s Honkai Star Rail is available on PS5, and with it comes a brand new title update with even more exciting content for players on all platforms to explore. If you’re an existing player hoping to continue your journey through the cosmos on consoles, you might come across some issues when you try to take advantage of Honkai Star Rail account linking and the cross-progression features available. So, if you want to know how to link your Honkai Star Rail account to PS5 and avoid any trouble, you’re in the right place.

If you’re looking for an addictive time-sink while you wait for some of the new PS5 games to arrive, Honkai Star Rail really is one of the best RPG games out there right now. It’s designed to be that way, though, so don’t feel bad if you’re neglecting some of the best PS5 games to spend all your time on the Astral Express. We certainly know how easy it is to spend an evening chasing the best Honkai Star Rail team comp available – depending on the Honkai Star Rail banner schedule, of course.

Those of you starting your Honkai Star Rail adventure on the PlayStation 5 platform shouldn’t have any trouble jumping into things. However, if you’re a veteran with an account on PC or mobile, you’re going to want to link your accounts and make sure you’re able to use all the Honkai Star Rail characters you’ve already unlocked. Sure, you can earn quite a few free Honkai Star Rail Special Passes in update 1.4 – and you have all the latest Honkai Star Rail codes to use – but, you’re still going to want to make sure you have everything you’ve earned prior to this available if you need it.

Once you’ve installed and booted up Honkai Star Rail on your PS5, you should automatically find yourself prompted to link your existing Honkai Star Rail account to your PlayStation Network account. If you don’t have a HoYoverse account already, this is where you’ll need to set one up. Although, if you do, you should be able to link your account via QR code – or, of course, sticking in your email address and then using the verification code it sends you.

It’s a simple process really, and it shouldn’t take you any time at all. Although, if you’re coming across some issues, you’re not alone.

As highlighted in the comments of this Reddit post asking for help with this very issue, you’re going to need to make sure the HoYoverse account you use for Honkai Star Rail is in the same region as your PlayStation Network account. This isn’t going to be an issue for too many of you, but if you have multiple accounts it might be.

Other players are finding that they’re automatically thrown into a tutorial after playing Genshin Impact on their PS5 console – of which many found a HoYoverse account automatically created for them. If you find yourself in a similar situation, you’re going to need to play Honkai Star Rail until you can access the menu and the account settings page, then head to the ‘user center’ and link a throwaway HoYoverse account you don’t really care about. So, you may need to create one with a spare email you have lying around.

This should then allow you to manually un-link your accounts on the HoYoverse account webpage, which will then trigger account linking next time you boot up Honkai Star Rail. It’s a bit of a faff, but it’s the only real solution to this problem.

If you find your main HoYoverse email account is already linked to your PlayStation Network account, after playing Genshin, then making a new PSN account to link your alternate HoYoverse account (the one you’re using for Honkai Star Rail on another platform) is sadly the only option. HoYoverse may introduce account merging in the future, to combat this issue, but right now this is the only way you can take advantage of account linking – if your Genshin Impact save and your Honkai Star Rail save are on two different HoYoverse accounts.

If you’re facing any more issues, then you might need to contact HoYoverse and PlayStation about it. At the moment, the two main contributing factors to issues account linking are that the regions are different (ie, PSN in NA and HoYoverse in Asia), or that your current Genshin Impact progress is linked to a different HoYoverse account than your Honkai Star Rail progress. When you think about how to reroll in Honkai Star Rail, it’s easily done.
