The Silent Hill franchise is returning with a bang in 2023, as developer Konami plans to release several new Silent Hill games. A mystery title known as Silent Hill: The Short Message has players excited – especially those on PlayStation 5. However, Xbox Series S|X players might have to lower their expectations of diving into this fresh Konami adventure.

Back in October, Konami finally unveiled the future of the Silent Hill franchise with the Silent Hill Transmission showcase. Games such as Silent Hill: Townfall, Silent Hill: Ascension and the highly anticipated Silent Hill 2 remake were officially revealed – but one title continues to remain unannounced.

Details of this extra Konami release have been shrouded in mystery, but it appears that Silent Hill: The Short Message is releasing exclusively on Playstation 5.

According to ResetEra user and notable leaker ‘DustGolem‘, Silent Hill: The Short Message has been rated by the Taiwan Digital Game Sale-Regulation Committee. Like the game’s rating by the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea in September, the upcoming Konami title remains a PlayStation 5 release.

Sadly, it seems that Xbox players will be left on the sidelines, as the latest batch of Silent Hill games avoids Microsoft’s console. It isn’t all doom and gloom though, as the Tawainese rating has given us a better insight into the Short Message.

Per GameRating’s synopsis, Silent Hill: The Short Message will follow “Anita” who “came to an abandoned apartment to meet her friend Maya, and somehow woke up to find herself trapped in it.” Players must use their wit to “escape her own fears and the monsters lurking in the corridors, discover the truth behind the events she’s trapped in, and try to escape before her own trauma consumes her will to survive.”

Alongside the first inkling of story information, Silent Hill fans can also feast their eyes on what appears to be official key art for The Short Message. The image isn’t for the faint-hearted, though, as it depicts a particularly harrowing scene of a blood-soaked apartment. We’ll wait outside.

It remains to be seen what form The Short Message will take, as it could utilise PSVR2 and act as a spiritual successor to the critically acclaimed P.T demo – given the game’s location. But that’s just hopeful speculation, for now. In the meantime, you can look forward to the Silent Hill F release date, which is one of many games to look forward to in 2023.
