MK1 leaks reinforce rumors that another 80s icon is on the way

Another batch of Mortal Kombat 1 leaks reveal data-mined voice lines for upcoming fighters that seem to clearly reference the long-rumored Conan the Barbarian.

Mortal Kombat 1 leaks voice lines Conan the Barbarina: Arnold Schwazernegger as Conan

The Mortal Kombat 1 roster is set to grow quite consistently over the next few months with NetherRealm Studios’ Kombat Pack adding characters like Omni-Man, Homelander, Quan-Chi, and Takeda Takahashi to the fighting game. However, rumors suggest there’s more to come after that and recent MK1 leaks reinforce claims that another legend of 80s cinema is making his way to Liu Kang’s new timeline. Yes, it looks like we’re going to see Conan the Barbarian in MK1 in the future.

NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat 1 is without a doubt one of the best fighting games out there at the moment, despite the fact fans are crying out for this feature in the “rip off ” premium item shop. However, it’s also a game that’s taking yet another page out of the live service book with more guest fighters planned than ever before. Of course, the thought of beating Scorpion with The Boys’ own Superman when the Mortal Kombat 1 Homelander release date rolls around is exciting, but it’s not necessarily something purist fans will enjoy when there are so many other Mortal Kombat 1 characters waiting to join the roster. That being said, it’s hard not to get excited about Conan joining the roster – if the leaks are true.

For those of you who don’t know who Conan the Barbarian is, you’re missing out the leading man in some of the best 80s movies of all time – if you like your swords and sorcery, anyway. Originally portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1982 and 1984, then by Jason Momoa in 2011, Conan is a chivalric medieval hero descended from Atlanteans who – to summarize – enjoys saving damsells in distress and clobbering all manner of creatures. He’s featured in comics, cartoons, and – of course – videogames, but never in a fighting game like Mortal Kombat 1.

With all the bloody Mortal Kombat 1 fatalities and satisfying Mortal Kombat 1 combos, the fact that Conan the Barbarian could be joining the roster is quite exciting. But, how do we know this isn’t just idle chatter?

Well, Conan the Barbarian is a name that’s been included in roster leaks for a long time now – consistently appearing alongside Ghostface, the T-1000, and Noob Saibot. With leaks reinforcing claims that Scream strar Ghostface is set to join MK1 after his Call of Duty debut, the same sort of leaks are now seemingly reinforcing rumors that Conan the Barbarian is on his way, too.

Shared alongside other data-mined voice lines by Redditor ‘bonedrones‘, several voice lines for upcoming fighters Omni-Man and Peacemaker seem to make sure-fire references to Conan the Barbarian – or, at least, it makes a lot of sense that they would be about him. We can’t help but think that he’s going to shoot up to the top of our Mortal Kombat 1 tier list, even now.

But, onto the evidence. One, from Omni-Man, reads “what are you, a disciple of Battle Beast?” –  a character from the show Invincible. Meanwhile, one from Peacemaker reads “let’s trade! I’d look badass holding a broadsword.”

Conan the Barbarian uses a variety of weapons, sure, but a broadsword is easily one of his most iconic and – when you look at all the characters currently available and announced (and the Mortal Kombat 1 Kameo fighters, of course) – Conan the Barbarian really is the only candidate to be wielding a broadsword. Ashrah does use a sword, but it’s far from one you could label a broadsword, in our opinion. So, this leads us to believe that Conan the Barbarian is likely coming to this fighting game at some point after the Mortal Kombat 1 Takeda release date – he’s scheduled to be the last Kombat Pack fighter to be added.

If you’re looking for more on MK1, you’ll be pleased to know that everyone can get this Kombat Pack exclusive now – and, shockingly, it was only exclusive for under a month. Those of you looking for more on all the new PS5 games and new Xbox games on the way, while we wait for Conan to drop, can find that here.
