If you’re looking for something that’s between Fortnite and Warzone, this could be the game for you. With the color and customisation of Fortnite and the grittier realistic gunplay of Call of Duty, CRSED: FOAD has found its niche in the battle royale genre.

Call of Duty: Warzone
Warzone is the ultimate realistic battle royale. Jump into Vondel with your squadmates by your side and the best Warzone guns in your hands to beat 146 other players and emerge victorious.
Call of Duty is a longstanding franchise, and Warzone is the culmination of its multiplayer. If Fortnite’s bright aesthetic and increasingly frequent UFO abductions are proving a bit too much, then Warzone’s gritty alternative could be the battle royale for you.
PUBG
PUBG is one of the original battle royale games, so if you want a blast from the past then it could be time to jump back in. Gone are the days when PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds was thought of as one of the finest battle royale offerings, but that has let it fly under the radar for some time.
Jump into maps like Erangel, Paramo, or Karakin to prove your battle royale mettle and secure that chicken dinner.
Firestorm (Battlefield V)
Battlefield’s attempt at entering the battle royale genre was by most accounts a good decision. If we had to pick one reason to drop into Halvøy, however, it would be to take control of a tank and destroy the idyllic Scandinavian setting. Buildings can be destroyed wall by wall with enough firepower, which creates the most cinematic moments when entire complexes collapse around you as you fight to survive.
If that wasn’t enough to persuade you, Firestorm has possibly the best incarnation of the closing circle out of any battle royale game. A huge wall of fire (or storm of fire, we should say) pushes players towards the centre of the map, and getting caught in it doesn’t just give you a little cough and splutter, it is a legitimately terrifying ordeal.
Nuclear Winter
Fallout 76 had a rocky launch, to say the least. However, its battle royale mode, Nuclear Winter, is well worth checking out. With only 52 players split into teams, it’s on the smaller side of battle royales, but if you’re into post-apocalyptic fights or just dig the Fallout universe, Bethesda’s offering could be ideal.
Fallout 76 has a larger online role-playing game attached, but it’s Nuclear Winter that best recreates the Fortnite experience in the futuristic hellscape that is the Fallout universe.
Blazing Sails
If you’re a fan of the Fortnite aesthetic, then many of these games may not be what you’re looking for. Blazing Sails, however, has a very similar style to Epic’s battle royale game, but takes things from a mythical island to the seven seas.
Yes, Blazing Sails is a pirate battle royale, almost like a crossover between Fortnite and Sea of Thieves. So load your cannons and swig your rum, because you’ll have to fight to the death if you want to rule the waves.
Apex Legends
Apex Legends is an excellent battle royale game, and one of our very favorites. If smooth movement is your thing, then Apex is the game for you. In our opinion, the movement in the game is the best we’ve felt in any FPS game since Titanfall 2. It’s not a coincidence either, as developer Respawn works on both games and they are set in the same universe. The most recent addition to Apex Legends, Valkyrie, is even related to a boss in Titanfall 2.
Whether you’re interested in climbing the Apex Legends ranks, mastering your favourite character, or trying out the game’s new Arena mode, Apex has it all.
For slick movement, unique abilities, and Titanfall references galore, Apex Legends is the best game like Fortnite for you.
Minecraft
Fortnite took some obvious inspirations from Minecraft, so if it’s the fort-building that you like from the battle royale, then Minecraft is the best substitute. The building is unparalleled, and you can even play some battle royale-type modes – although these aren’t the best way to play the game.
If you’re going to jump into Minecraft, we recommend heading into a survival mode for the ultimate experience. Suddenly lava is a death sentence, inventory maintenance is an immediate priority, and Creepers become the scariest enemies in gaming.
