Another month has passed and there are new FC 24 POTM SBC conundrums to clear in the soccer game’s Ultimate Team mode. If you’ve not been keeping tabs on the Premier League recently, this month’s inclusion from the top flight of English soccer may come as a bit of a shock, as Harry Maguire has grabbed the gong for the first time. This is great news for FC 24 players on PS5, Xbox, or otherwise, as the upgrade Maguire has earned himself is absolutely wild.
Having dropped below 80 overall for the first time since FIFA 18, Maguire’s 79-rated card for FC 24 had room for improvement. However, EA Sports hasn’t just made the Maguire SBC a viable pickup with a few well-earned upgrades here and there – the developer has turned him into a meta monster with pace for days. That’s right, the human embodiment of a commercial chiller has had thrusters strapped to him, turbocharging his pace from a paltry 46 to a roaring 82 – an unprecedented +36 upgrade. For reference, this Maguire card is almost as quick (at least at full sprint) as teammates Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Antony.
Elsewhere, the player commonly referred to as ‘Slabhead’ has received a +6 to his Physical, +7 to his Shooting and Passing, +8 to his Defending, and +15 to his Dribbling stats, bringing him up to a very respectable 86 overall. Following the news that EA is reducing the top speed of controlled sprint, you won’t have to worry as much about recovering should you mistime a sliding challenge – good to know considering SBC Maguire is packing the Slide Tackle PlayStyle+.
When it comes to building around the Maguire SBC in FC 24 Ultimate Team there’s a lot to like. As a Premier League player from England he has plenty of excellent linking options with players at the top of the FC 24 ratings, bolstering his value further. As we hoped that FC 24 Evolutions would provide more meta variety this year, it’s good to see EA is seemingly taking a more drastic approach to SBC boosts.
So, if you’re hoping to slot the Maguire FC 24 POTM SBC into your best FC 24 formations, then you’re going to need to build two different squads – an 84+ overall-rated squad with at least one English player, and an 85+ overall-rated squad with at least one Premier League player. This is a statement few could have ever predicted reading at the start of the 2023 Premier League season, as the Manchester United and England star had seemingly fallen off the face of a cliff performance-wise, notching up a series of meme-worthy blunders in the process. However, the 30-year-old has kept his notoriously large head down, winning back not only his starting spot in the United squad but the Player of the Month Award for November.
With Maguire receiving that monstrous upgrade to his pace, it does beg the question as to whether EA will surprise us with more freak boosts in future FC 24 POTM SBCs. We’d personally love to see a Bukayo Saka with 99s across the board, though we feel that might be selling one of the best players in one of the best sports games around a little short.
