Call of Duty’s hitting Warzone’s most popular gun with a nerf, again

The latest Call of Duty Warzone update nerfs the Kastov 762, yet again, after it's Season 6 update failed to impact the AR's popularity.

If you’re still using the Kastov 762 in Warzone at the moment, Call of Duty has had quite enough of that – for real this time. Despite being hit with a huge nerf in Season 6, this assault rifle is still one of the most popular Warzone weapons – and for good reason. So, a new Warzone update is nerfing it, again.

For a little while now, Call of Duty players have been dominating the Warzone meta with the Kastov 762. It’s easily one of the best Warzone guns out there at the moment and a solid pick for anyone throwing their best Warzone loadouts together – whether you’re playing Vondead and Zombie Royale, or a standard battle royale playlist. At the start of Season 6, in an effort to curtail its dominance, Warzone nerfed the gun into the ground. Well, it tried to anyway; at the halfway point, it was clear that it had failed – the nerfs hadn’t done a lot to stop it being the most popular Warzone weapon in Season 6.

So, now, it’s trying again. At the time of writing, the WZRanked still lists the Kastov 762 as an S-tier weapon and WZStats has it listed as the third-most popular weapon with a 7.1% pick rate. This isn’t too different to its level pre-update, but both the Tempus Razorback and BAS-P are surging in popularity – despite being unaffected by the update. Of course, though, as time continues, this could all change. And, for what it’s worth, we think that’s what Call of Duty wants.

As you can see in the latest Warzone patch notes here, the Kastov 762 is getting its close-mid damage decreased alongside reduced damage multipliers for head damage, neck damage, and upper torso damage. There are no values attached, as always, but this should mean you’ll stand more of a fighting chance against anyone charging you with a Kastov 762.

Interestingly, the TR-76 Geist has also been hit with a huge nerf – seeing its close damage, close-mid damage, mid damage, head damage multiplier, and limb damage multipliers all decreased. The M13B, Lachmann 556, and M4 have all seen minor buffs, though.

Are you still going to want to use your best Warzone Kastov 762 loadout going forward? Well, right now, we think so. It’s still a great weapon and we don’t think the close-range nerfs are going to affect it’s usage generally too much. If you’re looking for another option, though, you should check out the best Warzone M13B loadouts available and the best Warzone M4 loadouts available here. You’re going to want to take advantage of one of the best Warzone SMG options in closer ranges anyway, so the Kastov 762 can still be your go-to assault rifle if you want it to be.

That being said, this meta Warzone BAS-P loadout is perfect for the rest of The Haunting and you should definitely consider checking it out. Although, you shouldn’t use it to defeat The Pharaoh in The Haunting – trust us on that one.
