MW3 Season 3 Reloaded takes notes from The Finals for new camo feature

The ultimate Call of Duty grind begins with MW3 Season 3 Reloaded, which adds Weapon Prestige Camos to flex across PS5 and Xbox matches.

MW3 Season 3 Reloaded is live now on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, launching with multiple new maps and modes for the latest Call of Duty game. However, the best feature is about to step up your drip level significantly. It appears that Sledgehammer Games is taking a few notes from rival shooter The Finals, as MW3 introduces Weapon Prestige Camos into the mix.

Grinding for MW3 camos is a consuming process, for better or worse. We all just want to run around in Sledgehammer’s ever-popular FPS game with those gorgeous animated skins, proving that we’ve put time and effort into mastering all the best MW3 guns available. The latest Call of Duty patch notes take that notion one step further: “In Season 3 Reloaded, we’re introducing Weapon Prestige Camos, a new progression system for players to flex mastery of their favorite weaponry in Modern Warfare 3.”

Unlike existing weapon skins where you need to grind out headshots or other tedious multiplayer game objectives, these brand-new camos are earned purely through XP. Sledgehammer is even including all the weapons carried over from Modern Warfare 2, giving you a vast arsenal to start checking off your list. “Weapon Prestige Camos are earned on a per-weapon basis, rewarding commitment and giving you completionists a grind to keep you busy for seasons to come,” Sledgehammer says in the patch notes.

The first Weapon Prestige Camo, called One Trick, can be unlocked by earning a grand-total of 150,000 XP per weapon. Aesthetically, One Trick is a “molten gold” skin, and it’s animated too – unlike the standard multiplayer and MW3 Zombies variant. This new camo progression system is similar to the same one found in Embark Studios’ The Finals. While players can purchase loads of stylish weapon camos, some of the game’s more luxurious looks are reserved for gaining XP on each of The Finals weapons. Want to really flex on your opponents? As MW3 continues to release seasonal updates, Sledgehammer promises to bring a new Weapon Prestige Camo with each remaining update ahead.

It won’t be long before you see what’s next for Call of Duty, either. Your first look at Treyarch’s new PS5 game and new Xbox game is all-but-confirmed to feature in June’s Xbox Showcase with its own separate Direct, similar to the one Starfield enjoyed last year. Rumored to be a direct sequel to 2020s excellent Black Ops Cold War, the forthcoming COD game allegedly features an open world game-style campaign that evolves upon MW3’s open combat missions, and early access to its overhauled COD Zombies experience.
