New Xbox showcase set for June, teases possible Call of Duty Direct

The Xbox Games Showcase follows the double-feature trend, though this year’s follow-up direct has been marketed as a possibly CoD-shaped mystery.

Microsoft has finally confirmed that its star-studded 2024 Xbox Games Showcase will air on June 9 at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST. Following the showcase, we’ll also be treated to a mystery “Redacted” Direct that focuses on a massive new game – however, the mystery may have already been cracked thanks to a fresh report. Call of Duty fans, it could be time to lock in for the reveal of Black Ops Gulf War.

Finally, some of the most eagerly-anticipated new Xbox games of 2024 and beyond will get their time in the sun – but what’s included in this year’s showcase? Well, it’s looking to be a real triple-A smorgasbord, with the Xbox Wire announcement heralding the “first showcase featuring games from our portfolio of studios across Activision, Blizzard, Bethesda and Xbox Game Studios, in addition to titles from our third-party partners.” Sheesh.

Our wishlist for the event is unsurprisingly long – bring us Silksong, you cowards! But it’s not only Hollow Knight’s long-awaited sequel that we’re dying to see. The Valorant console release date has yet to be set, with head honcho Anna Donlon recently hinting that there’s more to come from Riot Games on that front. Elsewhere in shooty shooty land, a Gears 6 reveal at the event was recently teased by JD Fenix actor Liam McIntyre.

Then you have the trio of games left over from January’s Developer Direct: Ara: History Untold, Avowed, and the unimaginatively named Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. But that’s not all – demands for Starfield Shattered Space, Contraband, hell, even the much-delayed arrival of Neon White on the list of Xbox Game Pass games have all been slung around The Loadout HQ. But, if there’s one game that you know we’ll be all over like a rash, it’s the heavily rumored Call of Duty Black Ops Gulf War – a game which, according to The Verge, is headlining the showcase’s follow-up direct.

Though little is officially known about the 2024 CoD title, there have been plenty of leaks and data mines to go around. Back in January, ‘skyla’ posted the logo for a fictional organization called Cerberus – the same logo we can see on the direct poster below – with the caption “CoD 2024.” Meanwhile, a monster leak from ‘Exo Vondy’ earlier this month has possibly revealed everything we can expect Treyarch to pack into our loadouts. The writing, or should we say the three-headed dog, is on the wall, and we’d be shocked if we’re not being shipped off to 90s Kuwait when we get to the grand unveiling.
