This new MK1 announcer pack concept is too good not to be real

If there's one thing we want to see NetherRealm Studios add to Mortal Kombat 1, it's more announcers, and this fan-made concept is almost too good to be true.

You might think NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat 1 is lacking content, but there’s a lot more to this game than meets the eye – it’s just not very good at telling you about it. One thing you might be missing out on is the fact you can actually change your announcer voice in the settings menu. While it’s a good way to customize your MK1 experience, options are still quite limited at the moment – which is a shame. However, one fan has thrown together a concept Mortal Kombat 1 Madam Bo announcer and we desperately need the developers to work with Kelly Hu to make it happen.

Mortal Kombat 1 might be one of the best fighting games on PS5 and Xbox right now, but there’s still quite a few things NetherRealm Studios could do to improve things. We know everyone has an opinion on which Mortal Kombat 1 characters should be improved upon and which should get knocked down a tier or two in our Mortal Kombat 1 characters tier list, but things like cosmetics and customization options are where NetherRealm Studios can add a little more to the experience without altering anything drastic.

So, while it might seem like something minor in the grand scheme of things, being able to change your announcer in Mortal Kombat 1 is a fantastic way of personalizing things. However, at the time of writing, your only options are Shang Tsung, Johnny Cage, Geras, and Liu Kang. These are decent options, sure, but this fighting game has a whole roster of characters to choose from – and a universe beyond that – when it comes to announcers. The fact that there’s only four available right now, and they’re all male, is a real shame.

Thankfully, one fan is offering us some insight into what it would be like to see other characters get their own announcer packs. Despite the fact that Nitara and Kenshi are both decent options they’re sharing with the world, the one that’s standing out above all else is Madam Bo – the best character in MK1, if we’re being honest.

As you can hear for yourself below, we think Madam Bo would be a truly fantastic announcer. Even though the video itself doesn’t quite come with the charm Madam Bo displays throughout the Mortal Kombat 1 story, we’re still convinced that NetherRealm Studios should make this a reality.

We will admit we’re not huge fans of the fact that it looks like AI is being used to do this, and not impersonation or cutting official audio. However, Kelly Hu from the MK1 cast is a fantastically talented actress – as her performance as Madam Bo shows – and we think she could bring a lot more life to an announcer pack featuring the character – if we’re lucky enough to get one.

If you want to see Hu as Madam Bo in Mortal Kombat 1, here’s a montage of all her scenes. She’s calm, and wise – but, she also knows how to throw a punch (and take one). She also has a fantastic sense of humor, something we want to see NetherRealm Studios explore further.

For now, though, we’ll just have to wait and see what we get. We do have the Mortal Kombat 1 Kombat Pack release dates to look forward to, with new fighters like Omni-Man, Homelander, and Quan-Chi coming. We wouldn’t be surprised to see a few more announcers added to the fighting game too, but NetherRealm Studios isn’t in the habit of revealing these things ahead of time.

New MK1 leaks do reinforce rumors that another 80s icon is on the way, though – and that’s almost as exciting as the thought of a Madam Bo announcer. You can also find out more about the Mortal Kombat 1 Omni-Man release date, and the Mortal Kombat 1 Homelander release date right here. If you’re waiting for the Mortal Kombat 1 Takeda release date, though, you have some time ahead of you yet.
