Mortal Kombat 1 stress test makes the canon even more complex

NetherRealm Studios unleashes the Mortal Kombat 1 stress test across PS5 and Xbox, with avid players noting voice lines that clarify Mortal Kombat lore.

Mortal Kombat 1 timeline

While we live in the age of multiverse shenanigans on the big screen, nothing can quite prepare you for the timeline in Mortal Kombat 1. Realms are on fire and the list of Mortal Kombat 1 characters is becoming more intriguing as each day passes until the Mortal Kombat 1 release date. As players dive into the Mortal Kombat 1 stress test, several voice lines seemingly confirm that every event in the MK universe coexists, bringing everything everywhere together all at once.

Fans of previous games like Mortal Kombat Deception will be pleased to know that references to characters from the Midway era are present, specifically that of Onaga. In a recent clip from Twitter user ‘Adventures_Ext’, a pre-fight screen sees two Liu Kang’s face off against one another, with one of them asking: “Does Onaga exist in your timeline?”

Responding to the alternative timeline Liu Kang’s question, the other Kang says “exist in it? He rules it.” Whether Onaga will appear in Mortal Kombat 1 is unclear, but with the MK universe splitting and veering in every direction, perhaps the Mortal Kombat Armageddon antagonist will return with a vengeance.

However, Liu Kang’s fate in other corners of the Mortal Kombat canon will definitely have fans talking. Another clip from MK1 player ‘YunaBKG’ shares a clip that depicts Kitana battling her multiversal variant. One of them is surprised to learn of Kang’s demotion, saying “Liu Kang isn’t a god in your timeline?”

Instead, is it revealed that Liu Kang is actually Kitana’s consort, seemingly ruling alongside Kitana in Edenia.

As the Mortal Kombat 1 stress test continues, more lines of referential dialogue are sure to emerge, and we can only imagine how many mind-warping revelations will be in the full game.

We’ve already seen footage that hides characters from nearly three decades ago, as well as confirmation that Jean Claude Van Damme IS Johnny Cage ahead of the Mortal Kombat 1 release date. We’re curious to see how all the Mortal Kombat 1 Kameo Fighters interact with other characters.

Setting itself up to be one of the best fighting games in 2023, don’t hesitate to get in on the fun early with the Mortal Kombat 1 beta. Just be sure to brush up on all the Mortal Kombat 1 fatalities before you step into the arena.
