That recent Summer Game Fest 2023 gameplay makes us yearn for the Mortal Kombat 1 release date more than ever, but once you recover from its brutal beatdowns, there is more to discover. Mortal Kombat 1 sees many fighters return to the arena, but one addition to the Mortal Kombat 1 characters list is hiding in plain sight – if you’re quick enough to spot them.
Many MK1 fans are scouring through the fresh gameplay footage to uncover a wealth of easter eggs and secrets, but eagle-eyed Mortal Kombat fan Justin ‘Dynasty’ Lacount may have found the best one yet. Originally appearing in 1995’s Mortal Kombat 3, the YouTuber notes that Sindel is seemingly set to join the Mortal Kombat 1 roster. Though the wife of Shao Khan doesn’t battle anyone in the footage, she is seen in the background very briefly, observing the ongoing mayhem.
“Ahh, she’s behind me! You can’t see, I’ve paused it. I’m sitting on my throne and she’s sitting on hers! […] Sindel in all of her glory,” the Mortal Kombat 1 enthusiast exclaims.
Sindel’s role in the Mortal Kombat 1 story is currently a mystery, but the YouTuber posits that it is “probably safe to say she is still the Queen of Edenia, which is interesting because as you guys do know going back to the announcement trailer, there is like the purple carriage and I initially I was saying that Mileena was going to be the Queen.”
Sindel’s past in the franchise has seen her evolve into a fully fledge hero, making her a target for enemies like Shao Kahn and Onaga. However, with the arrival of Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath, her story is retconned to reflect that is she actually an evil presence in the MK universe after all. When it comes to the Mortal Kombat 1 timeline, well, we’ve already got some thoughts on its changes and omissions.
Dynasty theorizes that Sindel is still the Queen of Edenia, pausing the gameplay on another frame to reveal another throne next to Sindel – with what is possibly Mileena on it. Sindel was last seen in Mortal Kombat 11 as a Kombat Pack character, but her presence on the official roster isn’t confirmed.
We speculate that she could be one of the many Mortal Kombat 1 Kameo Fighters. It’d definitely be awesome to see players be able to tap in Sindel alongside Mileena or Kitana. Touches like this could make Mortal Kombat 1 one of the best fighting games in 2023, which will be a great feat to achieve with heavy hitters like Street Fighter 6 already available on PS5 and Xbox. Of course, we can’t forget the Tekken 8 release date too.
If you’re not quite ready to get your Mortal Kombat 1 pre-orders locked in, then you probably want to try the Mortal Kombat 1 beta first.
