When is the Mortal Kombat 1 beta? With the news of a beta for NetherRealm’s latest gruesome fighting game, eager fans want to know all about the opportunities to play the game before its release. Well, you’re in luck. Here’s all the details on the the MK1 beta, including beta dates, platforms, and how to get beta access as it’s not as simple as you might think. There are lots of features to be excited about in the Mortal Kombat 1 beta.

Players are looking for every chance they can get to dive into the arena early. Besides the beta, it’s also worthwhile learning about Mortal Kombat 1 early access if you just can’t wait for the Mortal Kombat 1 release date to arrive. This will allow you to try out the many complex Mortal Kombat 1 characters to give yourself the upper hand upon launch.

Mortal Kombat 1 beta dates

The Mortal Kombat 1 beta will take place between Friday, August 18, 2023, at 8am PT, 11am ET,  4pm BST, 5pm CEST and Monday, August 21, 2023, at  3am PT, 1am ET, 11pm UK, 11:59pm CEST for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S for those who pre-order. 

The MK1 beta will include six characters, four Kameo Fighters, two maps, and access to a limited single-player Klassic Towers mode. For those unaware, Klassic Towers is a ladder-type game mode that will see you take on various AI fighters one after another.

Similar to the online stress test, players will get the chance to try out the Mortal Kombat 1 Kameo Fighters, a unique new mechanic for the fighting game series that allows you to bring in an extra fighter, which will have minor attacks to help you out.

To get a Mortal Kombat 1 beta you need to pre-order the game on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. The beta won’t be taking place on Nintendo Switch or PC, so you cannot get codes to play on those platforms.

Unfortunately, Mortal Kombat 1 crossplay is not available during the beta, meaning you’ll only be playing with other players on the same console as you.

The Mortal Kombat 1 beta is only available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms, meaning it is not accessible on PC or Switch.

Despite the game launching on all platforms, NetherRealm has confirmed on the FAQ page that the Mortal Kombat 1 beta is only on Sony and Microsoft’s current-gen consoles. No doubt this will have taken many PC and Switch fans of the series by surprise who were hoping to try out the game as early as possible.

The six playable characters in the Mortal Kombat 1 beta are:

  • Liu Kang
  • Kenshi
  • Sub-Zero
  • Kitana
  • Johnny Cage
  • Li Mei

The first four characters were available to play during the online stress test, while Johnny Cage and Li Mei are now playable for the first time in MK1 during the beta.

The Mortal Kombat 1 beta Kameo Fighters that you can use during the test are:

  • Kano
  • Sonya
  • Jax
  • Frost

All aside from Frost were available during the online stress test, however, this will be the first time players get to use Frost with the new MK1 mechanic.

The Mortal Kombat 1 beta maps are The Teahouse and Johnny Cage’s mansion, which were both available during the limited online stress test. However, for many players, this will be the first time experience two exciting stages in Mortal Kombat 1.
