There are some games that feel like blockbuster events when they release, and Spider-Man 2 was no exception. Insomniac Games’ epic PS5 sequel went bigger, but maybe not bold enough for some players. That sentiment seemed to be echoed in its losses at The Game Awards last December, but now, Spider-Man 2 is swinging out of the DICE Awards 2024 with some serious accolades.
Since its release last year, Spider-Man 2 is often cited as one of the best PS5 games of this generation, as well as a major PS5 exclusive. That’s reflected in six total award wins at the DICE Awards 2024. It’s a notable achievement for Insomniac Games, considering that Spider-Man 2 surprisingly walked away from The Game Awards with nothing last year. However, with competition for some of the best games of 2024 like Alan Wake 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3, it was never going to be an easy fight for this excellent open world game to win.
In a strange, but predictable move, Sony did crown Spider-Man 2 as its own Game of the Year too. While it was a win for the game’s fans and Insomniac, it does feel like Sony is patting itself on the back with that one. Now though, Spidey has finally swung through a big awards ceremony and left the building with some prizes in hand.

- Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition
- Outstanding Achievement in Audio Design
- Outstanding Technical Achievement

Although it managed to conquer these competitive categories, it still couldn’t topple the juggernaut that is Baldur’s Gate 3 for the big one. Larian Studios’ creation – widely regarded as one of the best RPGs ever – scooped the Game of the Year award.
Despite Spider-Man 2’s critical success, the path forward since launch has been uninteresting to say the least. With no instant hits of DLC like the first game, post-launch content is still non-existent. According to a recent social post from Insomniac, a new Spider-Man 2 update is set to be released in March, bringing highly requested features like Spider-Man 2 new game plus.
However, we’re still itching to see whether any story expansions will materialize. It hasn’t stopped the PS5 hit from smashing this sales record, though.
