One of the great things about Helldivers 2 is experimenting to your heart’s content with its extensive arsenal. There are so many explosive ways to extinguish Terminids and Automatons, but some guns are quickly becoming fan favorites. As Arrowhead Game Studios moves past troublesome server issues, the studio is looking to balance the breakout PS5 hit in a new Helldivers 2 update – and the Breaker seems to remain unharmed.
Helldivers 2’s meteoric rise to the top of the best multiplayer games on PS5 is down to its superb gameplay, but keeping the fight for democracy fair isn’t easy. We’ve already seen the fall of Malelevon Creek, a brutal event already cemented in the game’s history. However, to aid efforts on the battlefield, game director Johan Pilestedt explains on social media that “we are looking at data and [planning on] doing a balance patch.” Typically, balance patches in shooters address keeping combat fair, whether that means making it slightly harder or maybe even easier.
Nerfing weapons is often par for the course in these updates, as you’ll have seen in FPS games like Modern Warfare 3. The Breaker shotgun is an obvious candidate to get nerfed, given how its raw power can decimate Terminids and Automatons with ease. The good news is that “while the breaker scores more kills, it is not overrepresented in missions that end in success.” Basically, Helldivers 2 players are good at keeping their battles versatile. Who could blame you when dropping a 500KG bomb Stratagem is so satisfying.
The Breaker is unlocked through the co-op game’s free battle pass, with an Incendiary ammunition version of the weapon available in the paid equivalent. You’ll need to rack up some War Bonds if you haven’t got it yet, but the wait is worth it. We’ve found that the Incendiary iteration is far better at dispatching Terminids, especially Chargers. Because Automatons are cybernetic enemies, fiery ammo is basically useless against them.
Arrowhead Game Studios continues to roll out patches frequently for Helldivers 2, so it likely won’t be long before these tweaks are implemented. With the game overcoming its server-related obstacles, we’re keeping our eyes peeled for the arrival of cut content like stealth-focused weapons. Although usable mechs are undoubtedly the most exciting feature on the horizon.
In other Helldivers 2 news, while the shooter is one of the best PS5 games around right now, it isn’t stopping Arrowhead from crafting ideas for its next game.
