Defending Super Earth is the highest honor in the galaxy in Helldivers 2, but spreading democracy isn’t for the faint of heart. Helldivers 2 invasions have now arrived to test your might against waves of savage Automatons, and this hardcore, limited-time event is offering up the best Helldivers 2 action yet. I’m absolutely loving the punishment, and I hope it stays that way.
Like you, we’ve been loving our time with Helldivers 2, which is easily becoming one of the best PS5 games of the year so far. In a surprise announcement, players can now band together for a limited-time event, as Arrowhead Game Studios asks the community to suppress the new PS5 game’s cybernetic enemies. Live now for everyone to play, the Automaton Invasion tasks players with new Major Orders too, which involve clearing our objectives in the Xzar sector of the galaxy.
Essentially, invasions act as a weekly reset event, giving players a reason to tune back in for more multiplayer game madness. There’s decent XP up for grabs, especially if you’re playing on harder difficulties. After all, there isn’t time to kick back and relax while defending Super Earth.
Just like the first Helldivers game, large objectives are driven by the community, rather than just solo skirmishes. This means everyone doing their part to spread the game’s unique brand of democracy and liberty on the frontline, with a healthy heaping of explosives, of course.
The Automaton invasion is exceptionally tough, too, and we’ve seen its horrors first hand. If you thought waves of bugs were hard, then this makes it look like light-work in comparison. I’ve had my ass thoroughly kicked and handed to me, as Automaton enemies arrive in swarms of at least four troop carriers at once. But this is why Helldivers 2 is emerging as one of the best co-op games out there. The fun is in failure. If a game can bring out my heinous, wheezing laugh, then it is doing a good job. You’ve got 13 days left to fulfil your objectives, at the time of writing, so get out there fast, Helldiver.
Elsewhere in Helldivers 2 news, you won’t be seeing a Helldivers 2 PvP mode anytime soon, according to the studio. However, there are plans in the works to “beef up” forthcoming post-launch content.
