Nearly a decade later, Fallout 4 is still going strong and is now finally getting some major upgrades on PS5 and Xbox Series X. The wait for Bethesda’s Fallout 4 next-gen update has been a long one, with delays setting the overhaul back. Now, the wait is over, and the new Fallout 4 update is available on current-gen consoles.
Originally announced back in October 2022, Bethesda’s massive post-apocalyptic RPG game banger is getting brought up to current-gen standards. The update is steadily becoming available on PS5 and Xbox from today, Thursday, April 25, 2024. But what exactly does this update to the open-world game include? According to Bethesda in a recent blog post, the studio says that “this free update includes native applications for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.”
Within them, you’ll find Performance and Quality Mode toggles, meaning you can prioritize between a higher frame rate or sparkling visuals. Performance Mode will target 60 FPS, while both modes will bring “increased resolutions” to the current-gen experience.
There’s even an entirely brand-new quest, called ‘Echoes of the Past’, and you can check out all the sweet rewards it includes here. For those of you still playing one of the best games in Bethesda’s library on PS4 and Xbox One consoles, the developer is also dropping some stability and quests fixes in a separate update too. We never thought we’d be counting Fallout 4 as a new PS5 game and new Xbox game, but here we are.
Given the number of upgraded versions of Skyrim we’ve seen over the years, it shouldn’t come as a major shock that Fallout 4 is getting the same treatment. Right now, Fallout games are also soaring in sales following the TV show’s immense success. This includes Fallout 76, the once maligned multiplayer game. If you’re joining the wave of players downloading it for the first time, then you can also reap some free rewards, but you need to act fast.
