Destiny 2 Root of Nightmares Contest Mode explained
The Destiny 2 Root of Nightmares Contest Mode is a 48-hour window following the Root of Nightmares start time that features increased difficulty but limited-time rewards, both in-game and physical.
The Root of Nightmares Contest Mode will only be enabled during the first 48 hours of release in which players will be 20 Power below the recommended Power level. This ups the ante, making all enemies, including bosses, a lot more deadly. While Contest Mode will likely continue long after the first team beats the Lightfall raid, it is in place to level the playing field and increase the stakes.
Destiny 2 Root of Nightmares World First rules
The Destiny 2 Root of Nightmares World First rules indicate that the first Fireteam of six players to complete the Lightfall raid on Contest Mode will be declared victors. In order to win Root of Nightmares World First, the team must loot the final chest before returning to Orbit, otherwise their finish may not be recorded.
Gear disabled for Destiny 2 Root of Nightmares Contest Mode and World First
The following weapons and armour mods will be disabled during the Destiny 2 Root of Nightmares Contest Mode and World First raid race:
- Grand Overture
- Fighting Lion
- Winterbite
- Jötunn
- Hierarchy of Needs
- Citan’s Ramparts
- Necrotic Grips
- Thread of Ascent Strand Fragment
- Empowered Finish armor mod
These items will be disabled during the Root of Nightmares Contest Mode World First raid race. The unique effects of this gear will be disabled and further negative impacts to your Power level will occur if they are equipped.
It’s also worth noting that there will be no bounty or weapon crafting progress recorded for killing enemies besides bosses within the raid while the Root of Nightmares Contest Mode is active. This will still track outside of the raid though.
