The first weekend of the MW3 beta is almost over, with a brief interlude before Sledgehammer Games allows all platforms to participate in battle. Following the recent Call of Duty Next presentation, our first taste of Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer brings forth a limited selection of classic maps all the way back from 2009. And now, the kind of MW2 maps is back in the fold.
If you managed to get a MW3 beta code, you’ll likely have enjoyed early access to the MW3 multiplayer from October 6. However, if you weren’t so lucky, from Sunday, October 8, 2023, you can download the PlayStation exclusive version of beta – which includes Rust as a new addition to the Mosh Pit playlist. That means you’ll be able to play Hardpoint, Team Deathmatch, and Domination across a total of four original MW2 maps. Kill Confirmed is set to be added the following weekend, when the beta becomes open to Xbox and PC platforms.
Rust’s reputation is larger than the minuscule map, and has remained a constant favorite for Call of Duty fans over the years. Originating in one of the best FPS games ever made, Rust became the battleground for private lobby matches, often seeing players try out to join clans or settle their differences.
We’ve had our fair share of Rust 1v1 matches, with a myriad of parameters to determine how the match should be played. Last shot is a trick-shot off the top? Last shot has to be a 360? No ACOG scopes? You name it, every COD player has done this rite of passage.
You can get a look at some of the MW3 maps above in the recent multiplayer trailer. We’re still waiting to get back into Terminal, though, which is sadly absent from all phases of the MW3 beta. The Modern Warfare 3 release date will see all 16 original Modern Warfare 2 (2009) maps present in the game from launch, but what about after the game arrives?
Well, rumors surrounding the Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 release date purport that maps from different eras of the franchise will appear down the line, in a bid to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of Call of Duty. You don’t have until the actual day of release either to play the new COD game. Here’s how you can get Modern Warfare 3 early access, as well as your MW3 pre-order options.
