Sony finally confirms when you can buy the PS5 Slim in this region

The wait for the PS5 Slim feels long if you're not in the United States, but now, Sony confirms the PS5 Slim hits the UK next week.

More compact than its current model, the PS5 Slim is set to phase out what we’ve all become accustomed when we think of the PS5. Echoing the same practice that Sony deployed with the PlayStation 4 before it, the wait for the PS5 Slim has been a curious one so far, as the console begins to emerge in different regions around the globe. Now, Sony confirms that the new PS5 model will begin shipping from the United Kingdom as early as next week.

According to a recent social media post from the PS5 makers, players looking to play the best PS5 games around on the smaller iteration can do so shortly, it “the new PS5 model comes to the UK on [Wednesday] November 29.” While the PS5 Slim release date has found its place in regions like the United States, the PS5 Slim model‘s presence in the United Kingdom has remained an elusive topic since the console’s announcement in October.

This was made more cryptic, as an announcement blog at the time details that “the new PS5 model will be available starting this November in the U.S. at select local retailers and PlayStation Direct where available. It will continue to roll out globally in the following months.” Specifically, the latter part sounds as if Sony’s plans originally intended for the PS5 Slim to release in Europe much later. However, with the holiday season underway, we’re not surprised to see it emerge in time to be nestled under your Christmas tree.

As aforementioned, the PS5 Slim is set to be the standardized version of the console going forward, and as such will reflect a familiar price point from retailers. So, if you’re hoping to play some new PS5 games on it, when retailing at full price, you can expect the PS5 Slim model and its digital-only counterpart to sell for the following prices:

  • U.S.
    • PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – $499.99
    • PS5 Digital Edition – $449.99
  • Europe
    • PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – €549.99
    • PS5 Digital Edition – €449.99
  • U.K.
    • PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – £479.99
    • PS5 Digital Edition – £389.99

If you do opt for the PS5 Slim Digital Edition, you don’t have to be stuck without a disc drive down the line. You can purchase a separate Blu-ray disc player, though it does require an internet connection to function correctly upon installation. That’s if you can even find a PS5 Slim disc drive, as they are already selling out in some regions.

We’re glad the PS5 Slim isn’t stuck with just the normal plates that come with it. White is sleek, don’t get us wrong, but we all love a bit of color in our gaming setups. Luckily for you, Sony is planning to roll out a new range of PS5 Slim plates with several different colorways, including the recent Deep Earth collection variants.
