MK1 is getting spooky with new Halloween skins leaking ahead of NYCC

If you want something a little more seasonal in Mortal Kombat 1, you'll be pleased to learn that new MK1 Halloween skins are leaking ahead of their release.

It’s October, do you know what that means? Halloween is right around the corner and more than a handful of videogames will be getting seasonal content to celebrate. Despite no official announcements from NetherRealm Studios just yet, Mortal Kombat 1 looks like it will be one of those videogames – to no one’s surprise. New leaks showing off Mortal Kombat 1 Halloween skins are appearing online and we’re just days away from a mysterious announcement about MK1 at NYCC. Surely, that can’t be a coincidence.

We know cosmetics aren’t really what makes a game like Mortal Kombat 1 one of the best fighting games out there right now, but we would be lying if we said we weren’t excited at the idea of some Halloween skins coming. In MK11, we saw Jade as a wicked witch, Kabal as an iconic slasher, and Kung Lao in Dia de los Muertos – similar to the Day of the Dead skin currently available for Sub-Zero. Now, it looks like a handful of Mortal Kombat 1 characters will be getting new Halloween costumes for the new era and we couldn’t be more excited to learn more about them.

At the moment, as per leaks from ‘Renzu_Assassin‘, it looks like Mileena is getting an asylum-themed Halloween skin sporting restraining belts, high-laced boots, and bloody hands. As one of the most popular fighters in the community and someone climbing our Mortal Kombat 1 tier list, we certainly imagine quite a few players will be happy to see this one added to the selection of skins already available.

The comments in this thread also offer us a glimpse of another colorway for this skin, suggesting that Mortal Kombat 1’s selection of Palettes will be taken advantage of when these skins arrive. If it isn’t clear from the above, it’s a reference to Hannibal Lecter – just about – from 1991’s Silence of the Lambs.

This older video from content creator ‘BebsiMo‘ also claims that a Dia de los Muertos skin for Scorpion – twinning the one we have for Sub-Zero – is on the way alongside a whole host of ‘kosplay’ skins for Ashrah, Baraka, Li Mei, and more. While there’s nothing to say that these skins will make any final iteration of a Halloween skin pack for Mortal Kombat 1, we could see a few interesting cosemtics appear in the coming days and weeks. Some of these do seem to represent things we’ve seen in the finale of the Mortal Kombat 1 story, though.

This leak is also from September, and we haven’t seen much about most of the data-mined cosmetics since, which would suggest that there’s nothing more to them – that they won’t be available as skins. So, it’s worth taking it all with a pinch of salt. However, we’re days away from a new Mortal Kombat 1 trailer and NetherRealm Studios’ head Ed Boon has already confirmed that this isn’t about Mortal Kombat 1 Kombat Pack alumni Omni-Man. So, could it be about Halloween skins?

Still, we could be in for a treat with some unique fighter skins – and, of course, some cosmetics for all the Mortal Kombat 1 Kameo fighters currently available – and that’s very exciting. With the Mortal Kombat 1 Season 2 release date fast-approaching and the theme aptly all about blood – and Nitara’s vampiric ways – a set of spooky skins would fit right in.

If you’re more interested in preparing yourself for the next season of Kombat League, though, you can find our latest Mortal Kombat 1 characters tier list and Mortal Kombat 1 Kameo tier list right here. As much as we enjoy playing around as the entire roster, some fighters are just better than others right now; you should make sure you’re using the better ones where you can.
