Is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PS4? Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is one of the most exciting releases in recent years and has already received rave reviews from critics (ourselves included). Considering that both the original game and pseudo-sequel, Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales, have been playable both on PS4 and PS5, many have been wondering if the latest sequel has also arrived on the last-gen console and, if not, if a Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PS4 port is on the way.
Now that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has arrived, we’ve had the joy of catching up with the Spider-Man 2 characters and vanquishing the Spider-Man 2 villains. In fact, we’ve loved it so much Callum has even called it “a masterpiece of superhero entertainment” and the “ultimate PS5 exclusive” in our Spider-Man 2 review. Needless to say, it’s one of the best PS5 games out there right now… but has it also launched as one of the best PS4 games? And if not, has it made an appearance on our new PS4 games list?
Is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PS4?
Unfortunately, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a PS5 exclusive, meaning that it isn’t on PS4. When the game was revealed alongside Marvel’s Wolverine, Insomniac confirmed that both games would be PlayStation 5 exclusives in a PlayStation Blog post. As such, we don’t expect it will ever come to PS4.
Speaking on the decision to develop Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 only for the PS5 at the time, Insomniac’s franchise strategy and studio relations head Ryan Schneider said that the prospect of “pushing the capabilities of the console” was “very exciting”. In hindsight, the decision has certainly paid off, as New York has truly never looked better in a Spidey game. In our review, Callum has complimented it for being “both stunning and expansive”, with “superbly fast” loading times thanks to the power of the PS5’s SSD.
Indeed, this is the first game in Marvel’s Spider-Man series that is exclusive to the current-gen console, with the previous two being available on both PS4 and PS5. If you’re a fan of the wall-crawlers, you’ll need to look into picking up a PlayStation 5 in the near future.
While it may be a shame that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PS4 isn’t planned, there are plenty of reasons to take the plunge and pick up the next-gen console – 3D Audio, 120Hz gameplay, and immersive haptics aside. If Spider-Man 2 alone isn’t enough to merit the purchase, then check out our best PS5 open world games list for more excellent titles you can enjoy on your PS5 gaming TV.
Fortunately, as time’s gone on, the console’s availability has only grown. With Black Friday just around the corner, you could soon find that perfect bargain that will allow you to once again enjoy Miles and Peter’s web-slinging excursions.
