Helldivers 2 devs know massive difficulty spike is kicking your butt

Helldivers 2 is harder than ever since the new balance patch, and Arrowhead knows you’re getting obliterated in the acclaimed PS5 shooter.

Helldivers 2 was already pretty tough upon release, with hordes of Terminid mashing us up into patriotic soup. There’s also the matter of Bile Titans or Hulkbusters haunting our dreams. The latest Helldivers 2 update rebalances the game’s weaponry, and as a result, the fight for democracy is harder than ever. The good thing is that developer Arrowhead Game Studios is aware of the difficulty spike.

However, the bad news for the smashit co-op game is that you’ll be getting your ass handed to you until another update rolls along. Helldivers 2’s community manager ‘Spitz’ expresses on the game’s Discord that “we’ve heard your concerns over the last few days regarding enemy spawns, enemy armor, and the ability to kill these enemies.”

If you haven’t dropped in since the recent PS5 update, trying to fight forces like the Automatons is incredibly hellish. Wave upon wave of enemies constantly spawn into sub-objectives, to the point where it is near impossible to survive, especially on any difficulty levels above Challenging or Extreme.

Look, like you, we love a challenge. That’s part of why Helldivers 2 is one of the best multiplayer games around right now. We’re a glutton for punishment, and rising from the ashes is what makes each battle a cinematic feast for the eyes. Although the addition of mechs is awesome, the new Stratagem can be easily blown apart within seconds of deployment.

To counteract these frustrations, Spitz confirms that Arrowhead is “currently looking at changes to the spawn rates and health pools of heavy enemies, and will be attempting to spread them out more to prevent large spikes of tougher mobs appearing at the same time.”

Players trying to survive in Helldive, the game’s hardest difficulty, are even citing far less manageable battles too. Over on the game’s subreddit, one player claims that “post-patch Helldive difficulty is some f******* nonsense.” Their complaint is accompanied by footage of them trying to evade ten Bile Titans, which is easier said than done. We wish them all the best in their quest for liberty until the hotfix arrives.

There isn’t a date attached to the upcoming hotfix yet, but we anticipate it to drop within the next week. Arrowhead has been on the ball with its updates since launch, despite operating with a team of less than 100 developers. Struggles like Helldivers 2 server outages were prominent upon launch, and the recent liberation of Tien Kwan took the game’s player capacity to its limits again.
