Between smashing up baddies on the plains of Sanctuary in Diablo 4, you’ll be steadily progressing through the Diablo 4 battle pass for a myriad of rewards. With the Diablo 4 Server Slam giving RPG fans a chance to sample the game’s thrills once more, there is a caveat for reaping the benefits of the battle pass. Whereas competitor battle passes in Fortnite or Modern Warfare 2 afford players the ability to stock up for the season ahead, Diablo 4 isn’t following the same path.
Fielding questions from the Diablo 4 community on social media, franchise general manager Rod Fergusson addresses Twitter user ‘GunsteamV’, who asks: “When we purchase one battle pass, will the in-game currency we earn be able to buy the next battle pass?” Responding to the Diablo community member, Fergusson explains that “there will be currency you can use to reduce the cost of the next season battle pass, but not enough to fully buy it outright.”
The decision not to supplement players with currency ahead of future seasons is a leftfield choice for Diablo 4 fans, considering that fellow Activision-published titles in the Call of Duty franchise have offered the same courtesy in the past. Fergusson also sheds light on how the battle pass will operate in regard to duration, as ‘ChaosKiller2000’ requests clarification on the following: “Is the battle pass time limited and expires or like Halo Infinite [where] can you finish the battle pass at any time?”
However, in a similar vein to competitor battle passes, Fergusson details that “the battle pass is for the duration of the Season, so in our case, 3 months.” Providing players with new cosmetic options and boosts for their Diablo 4 classes, the battle pass is set to include both free and premium tiers. The bright side here is that the Diablo 4 battle pass rewards in question offer more for players than rival purchases, even Activsion’s other properties.
