Ahead of it’s next This Week In Destiny blog post, Bungie is confirming that the long-awaited Destiny 2 sparrow speed update is finally upon us. So, if you’re preparing yourself for a round or two of Sparrow Control in the future, or you just want to take a relaxing ride around Earth or Europa, you will be pleased to know you can now do so without relying on the Always on Time sparrow – an exotic option that has been the fastest sparrow available in Destiny 2 for a number of years now.
We know it should be a lot easier for players to get their hands on any of the new Destiny 2 Nightfall weapons they want, but Destiny 2 is still one of the best FPS games available at the moment and Bungie is introducing several important improvements throughout Season 23. One of the most immediately noticeable of those improvements arriving ahead of the Destiny 2 The Final Shape release date is the aforementioned sparrow speed boost update – an alteration that finally brings all Legendary rarity and Exotic sparrows up to speed (pardon the pun) with the Always on Time sparrow.
Since its introduction in Season of the Forge (which kicked off over five years ago in 2018), the Always on Time sparrow has been the fastest sparrow in Destiny 2 with a 40 boost stat and 55 durability. Available through the Scourge of the Past raid, Destiny 2 stat site Light.gg believes that around 33% of players have been able to get their hands on this sparrow so far. While a surprisingly large number of players, this raid was actually sunset with the release of the Beyond Light expansion in November 2020 and it has been a lot harder to get your hands on since then.
So, for quite a while now – as you might imagine – it’s been quite frustrating to find out that there really isn’t any way for you to get the fastest sparrow in the game. Sure, having access to this bit of kit isn’t nearly as important as making sure you’re using one of the best Destiny 2 weapons available, but it’s something that can make gameplay a lot easier – and, in Sparrow-based modes like Sparrow Control, it can actually make a huge difference.
Thankfully, Bungie foresaw everyone’s complaints (and regular-saw everyone’s complaints prior to the announcement that Sparrow Control was coming) and has now introduced an update that ups the speed of all Legendary rarity and Exotic sparrows to 190 – on par with Always on Time.
Not only does this promote a fairer playing field for everyone hoping to jump into Sparrow Control in the future, but it’s also an update that’s going to make traversal more generally much more enjoyable and efficient. It also makes almost every other sparrow that isn’t Always on Time a little more valuable – or rather, it makes Always on Time less valuable.
We know there are a lot of fantastic new PS5 games and new Xbox games out there demanding your spare time this holiday season, but – if you are planning on enjoying this speed boost for a while – you can also find the best Destiny 2 Titan builds, best Destiny 2 Warlock builds, and best Destiny 2 Hunter builds right here. It’s always worth checking you’re the best you can be ahead of any raid, dungeon, match of Gambit, or anything else you plan on doing in Destiny 2.
