The next major Call of Duty Warzone update is upon us, at long last, and it’s quite bad news if you’re someone who uses the battle royale’s most popular assault rifle option. Looking at the Season 6 patch notes, you’re going to have to deal with a huge Kastov 762 nerf in Warzone when you next jump in. Oh, and there’s also a minor one for those of you who play Modern Warfare 2, as well. This isn’t the only balancing change making a weapon worse, but it’s certainly one that will change the meta the most – if it’s as bad as it sounds.

Alongside the Warzone Season 6 release date, as is tradition now, Call of Duty is sharing the Season 6 patch notes with everyone – a set of balancing changes that details the update to both the battle royale and the main multiplayer experience. We know Warzone hasn’t looked like one of the best battle royale games for a little while now, but in the pursuit of trying to maintain Call of Duty’s position as one of the best competitive FPS games out there at the moment, the development teams have decided to reduce the damage output of one of the best assault rifle options out there.

As you can see for yourself (around halfway down) this Call of Duty Patch Notes post, the Kastov 762 assault rifle will have a reduced Close Damage and Close Damage Range moving forward. The Head, Neck, and Upper Torso Damage Multiplier have all been decreased, also. Call of Duty isn’t specifying how much all of these changes will affect the damage values of the Kastov 762, but it’s safe to say that it might not be one of the best Warzone weapons anymore. In fact, we would go as far as to say that you should look into changing your best Warzone loadouts ahead of your next game in Al Mazrah – or one of the Resurgence maps, of course.

How will this actually affect the Warzone meta, though? Well, it’s quite hard to say without specifics. As per the data from WZRanked, the Kastov 762 is used by over 30% of players right now. So, if it really is as bad as it sounds, that’s a huge number of players looking elsewhere for another weapon. Sure, it may still be worth using the best Warzone Kastov 762 loadout out there, but we don’t know for certain until we’re hands on. As we’ve said, this nerf does sound like a big one.

Interestingly, the M13B is getting a damage nerf too; however, the M13C is getting a Close Damage increase alongside the M16. Damage multipliers for a number of the best Warzone battle rifle options are also increasing. So, something like the Cronen Squall could very-well fill the Kastov 762-shaped hole in the meta.

Although, really, only time will tell. If you’re more interested in the future of the Call of Duty franchise, you can find out more about the Modern Warfare 3 release date right here. However, Warzone Season 6 sees one of the best spooky features make a comeback in The Haunting. So, it might be worth sticking around for that.
