When it comes to trawling through the long list of Xbox Game Pass games for an Xbox game to play, it can take a while to settle on something. If you’re someone with a mild case of choice paralysis in your spare time, you’re in luck – there’s a new game available with Game Pass and it’s well worth checking out. We know, though, that Far Cry 6 isn’t a title that sounds like everyone’s cup of tea, but there are quite a few reasons why you should free up some storage space and give it a go – aside from the fact that it’s free, of course.
Ubisoft’s 2021 release Far Cry 6 is easily one of the best RPG games available on Xbox right now – and that’s including new Xbox games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Remnant 2. If you’re trying to avoid competitive multiplayer games like Apex Legends and Call of Duty Warzone – two of the best battle royale games out there right now – it’s actually one of the best FPS games available too. Mechanically, it’s one of Ubisoft’s better shooters; the gunplay and combat is satisfying, the driving and horseback riding is responsive, and the introduction of Supremo backpacks add a new – rather explosive – element to this series’ traditional gameplay loop.
Beyond this, the island of Yara is a beautiful setting and a rich environment for all the destruction and mayhem Far Cry 6 offers up. This, though, isn’t much of a surprise – Ubisoft consistently deliver some of the best open world games available at the time and this is no different. The narrative, though, is truly where Far Cry 6 shines if you let yourself become embroiled in the conflict between Libertad and Anton Castillo’s regime.
You can check out a trailer for this game below, if you still need convincing. Oh, and did we mention you can make a sausage dog your companion? There aren’t too many games out there that let you do that, sadly.
If that all sounds like something you’re interested in, or at least something you want to check out while it’s free, you can actually download and play Far Cry 6 for free with an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership right now. We know working your way through a huge open world RPG like this can take quite a bit of time, but you don’t need to worry about how long it takes to beat Far Cry 6 if you’re busy over the next handful of weeks; this game will be available on Xbox Game Pass for the foreseeable future – Xbox isn’t talking about an end date, anyway.
Those of you out there who still don’t really feel like giving Far Cry 6 a go for whatever reason can find out more about all the best Xbox Game Pass games available during the holidays right here. With Xbox Game Pass Core adding this fantastic medieval FPS to the service just a handful of days ago and Xbox Game Pass also home to some of the best racing games in Forza Horizon 5 and Forza Motorsport (and, of course, a behemoth like Starfield), there’s still plenty to play beyond Far Cry 6. You may, however, want to look into picking up one of the best Xbox expansion cards if you don’t have one already – a lot of these games, Far Cry 6 included, take up quite a bit of storage space.
