It’s been another great month for Xbox Game Pass so far, but the service isn’t done with April just yet. Beyond the day-one additions of Harold Halibut and Grounded Fully Yoked Edition that have just gone live, Xbox has now announced its second wave of games that’ll take us up to the month’s end. Ice hockey fans rejoice, because you now won’t have to pay a penny extra for NHL 24.
Though EA Sports’ long-running series didn’t quite take the quantum leap many of us hoped for this year, NHL 24 remains the definitive way to experience the sport in videogame form. Coming in with a so-so Metacritic score of 71, most reviewers agree that, while there are improvements over NHL 23, they’re minimal – a sentiment we share from our time with the sports game.
Elsewhere in the six-strong list of new Xbox Game Pass games we have the previously-confirmed Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes and Another Crab’s Treasure – both day-one releases. The incredibly charming, claymation-based Harold Halibut has already captured our hearts here at The Loadout, while Grounded remains firmly… grounded on our best survival games list. What we’re trying to say is Xbox knows how to pick its day-one bangers, so we’re excited to see how these new Xbox games (and new PS5 games) pan out.
If you’re an Xbox Game Pass Core member, then there are also some absolute treats on the way to the Xbox Games Pass games list. On April 23, Deep Rock Galactic – Rory’s favorite game [citation needed] – Superhot: Mind Control Delete, and Wreckfest are joining the base subscription tier – dreams.
Here’s the full list of Xbox Game Pass April 2024 wave two games, including those Core additions:
- Orcs Must Die! 3 (Cloud, Console, and PC) – April 17
- EA Sports NHL 24 (Console) EA Play – April 18
- Deep Rock Galactic (Core) – April 23
- Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes (Cloud, Console, and PC) – April 23
- Superhot: Mind Control Delete (Core) – April 23
- Wreckfest (Core) – April 23

Whether or not any of these fresh additions will make it onto our list of the best Game Pass games remains to be seen, but April certainly hasn’t disappointed when it comes to bringing plenty of bang for your buck. We’d say May is going to have a tough time topping it, but with the Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 release date finally arriving next month, we’re not so sure.
