Tears of the Kingdom maps

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom has three distinct maps:

  • Hyrule
  • The Sky Islands
  • The Depths

Each of these locations offers a unique experience. Hyrule, of course, forms the core of the game with the largest areas to explore. While the landscape is similar to the previous game, there are some new additions. The Sky Islands are more sparse, sat above Hyrule, but can offer a fair amount of puzzles, unique resources, and enemies.

The Depths in Tears of the Kingdom’s most intriguing map. This underground labyrinth beneath Hyrule houses some of the biggest challenges in the game with tough enemies and puzzles. You will need to bring a great armor set, weapons, and a lot of meals and resources to really get through all the challenges down here.

Furthermore, players can traverse seamlessly through these zones. As detailed in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Ask the Developers Q&A, “you can dive from the sky directly to the ground without any interruption”, stated Takuhiro Dohta, technical director. This goes for The Depths as well, either dropping down a chasm or using Ascend to get back tot he surface.

There are also be new and updated locations in Tears of the Kingdom, with overhauled visuals and environment thanks to the passing of time and the fact several sky islands that have crashed into the ground. The ground-level regions of Hyrule are Central Hyrule, Gerudo Valley, Faron, Necluda, Lanayru, Akkala, and Hebra. Similarly, there are sky island zones above each of these regions.

Overall, there’s lots for players to explore and discover in this follow up to one of the best Nintendo Switch RPG games.
