The Finals rumored for surprise Xbox release during The Game Awards

Multiplayer FPS The Finals may launch on Xbox during The Game Awards 2023, as Embark Studios appears to lift the lid early on the surprise.

The Finals The Game Awards 2023

The Finals might arrive sooner than you think. And we don’t mean in a few weeks or months, we mean that it might be ready to download on your Xbox imminently. That’s because the Embark Studios shooter is rumored to surprise release during The Game Awards 2023, amid a myriad of announcements during Geoff Keighley’s annual celebration of the gaming industry.

Though you might be deep in the trenches of Modern Warfare 3 right now, The Finals could be the next new Xbox game to enter your library. The Finals release date is still unconfirmed, but one savvy Redditor points out that Embark Studios may have spoiled its own surprise. “Someone pressed the wrong button,” jokes ‘BreadandWaterforme‘, accompanying a screenshot of The Finals’ official website. However, this screenshot encourages players to dive into the shooter immediately across Xbox, PS5, and PC platforms.

Of course, the landing page for The Finals website is completely different now, removing any mention of that it is available to “Play Now.” However, this isn’t the only hint that Embark Studios could be getting ready to drop potentially one of the best FPS games of the year soon. Prior to this, some Xbox users are sporadically receiving updates for the game if they still have it installed following The Finals beta.

Another Redditor, ‘lilnastyone‘, says that “another 2GB update on Xbox” is going live. The frequency of this is unclear, but with The Game Awards set to take place on Thursday, December 7, 2023, an unexpected release during the ceremony would certainly drive traffic toward it quickly. Not to mention that for other regions of the world, the release would fall on a Friday – a perfect opportunity as players settle in for a weekend of FPS chaos.

All that remains is to see whether Geoff Keighley will deliver on the rumors during The Game Awards, but we’re sure it all-but-confirmed to happen. Not that Modern Warfare 3 is out in the wild and the only other major release this week is Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, the stage is open for another FPS experience to debut. Not to mention that The Finals is helmed by former Battlefield talent, as former EA DICE head Patrick Soderlund is at the center of Embark Studios.

There’s a good chance it could become one of the best Xbox games to release in recent memory, so until then, get prepared with the best The Finals weapons and everything you need to know about all The Finals classes.
