The wait for the Starfield release date is technically over if you’ve got Starfield early access. With so much hype and excitement behind Starfield, it is only natural that Bethesda fans are getting into the space RPG early, and staying up late to explore all the Starfield planets. Well for one player, settling in for a late-night session of exploring the stars has saved them from harm’s way.

Starfield player ‘tidyckilla’ explains via the game’s subreddit that “Starfield literally saved mine and my family’s life on September 1st […] in anticipation, I preordered the Premium Edition waiting to play this game. On the night of August 31, I decided to stay up and play as long as possible to experience this new universe.”

After playing the game for a couple of hours, the Redditor says that “at 2:26 in the morning, while playing the game, I heard an explosion from my downstairs neighbor’s apartment […] I opened the door I saw flames rising up our stairwell to our apartment.”

Taking action with immediate effect, the Starfield player escorts his wife and cat to safety, getting “only minor burns” in the process. Had the Redditor decided not to play Starfield that evening, they add that “I would have been asleep and we would have all died to smoke inhalation. I want to thank this game for saving my family and me from a horrible fate.”

On the fire itself, the Redditor explains the explosion “wasn’t as loud as you’d think it would be between multiple rooms and floors, my wife did sleep through it.” Fellow players are sending their thoughts to tidyckilla, expressing positivity for coming out of the situation mostly unharmed. “Happy you are all safe, bro. What a crazy situation,” comments ‘AlphaBearMode‘.

“Everyone is safe but is your Xbox safe? Can you still play Starfield? C’mon man. Give us the details that matter the most,” jokes ‘DapDaGenius’. In response, tidyckilla comically says that they are “currently playing in the hotel!”
