How do you holster your weapon in Starfield? Starfield is certainly one of the most expansive RPG experiences we’ve seen in a long time, and with it comes plenty of system elements that are left to the player to figure out. While waving your gun can instil fear into the masses, sometimes you need to take a more diplomatic approach to things when roleplaying – or you simply wish to free up screen space. This is why you need to know how to holster your weapon in Starfield on PC and Xbox.
Before we get into it, be sure to check out the best Starfield weapons you should be holstering and unholstering during your journey through Bethesda’s space Xbox RPG game. You’ll also want to keep an eye out for Starfield unique weapons – though you’ll probably want to keep these out to show off the drip. The instructions below come courtesy of our Starfield review playthrough, so you know we’ve got the tech.
How to holster your weapon in Starfield
Holstering your Starfield weapon requires pressing and holding the reload button. On an Xbox controller this is achieved with the ‘X’ button, while on a PC keyboard this is bound to the ‘R’ key by default.
Conversely, weapons can be unholstered by either pressing the reload button again, shooting, or aiming down sights.
Though we mentioned instilling fear into the masses in the introduction, most Starfield NPCs won’t actually be particularly fussed about you carting your favorite pew-pew gun around near them – be it when traversing the Starfield New Atlantis map or Starfield Akila City map.
However, some of the game’s more unwieldy weapons to wield can take up a whole lot of real estate on your screen, so knowing how to properly stow them away will at the very least remove some of that visual clutter, as you can see above.
And that’s how to holster your weapon in Starfield. While you’re here, be sure to check out the Starfield missions list if you’re unsure how far into the game you are. Additionally, make sure you’re well acquainted with the Starfield skills you’ll need to become a gun-toting wizard as you travel the cosmos.
