How do you delete an outpost in Starfield? Since you only have a limited number of bases you can build, you’ll eventually need to know how to remove an outpost in Starfield, especially if you’re not happy with your base. So, here’s all you need to know about the Starfield delete outpost process so you can get back to building.
Though you can increase the number of Starfield outposts you can have by unlocking and upgrading Planetary Habitation, one of the Starfield skills, knowing how to delete an outpost is good to know. After all, you might not have built a base in one of the best Starfield outpost locations and want to relocate, which we certainly did during our Starfield review playthrough.
How to delete an outpost in Starfield
To delete an outpost in Starfield, interact with the outpost beacon and hold down the button to rename it, which is ‘R’ on keyboard and ‘X’ on Xbox by default. You will then be asked if you want to remove the outpost.
The outpost beacon is the small mast that is placed down every time you create an outpost, which can be used to enter build mode, rename the base, and delete the outpost.
However, the option to delete the outpost is rather hidden. While entering build mode and renaming the outpost have their own buttons, the action to remove an outpost is an additional function of the renaming button, activating by holding down the input instead.
This means you must be in the outpost to remove it as it cannot be done through a menu. So, travel to the outpost on the chopping block and interact with the outpost beacon to remove it.
Another important thing to note is that all of your outposts will be deleted upon entering Starfield New Game Plus mode. That’s right, all your hard work will be automatically deleted when you restart the game on the same character.
What happens when you delete an outpost in Starfield?
Deleting an outpost in Starfield will fully remove the base from the world, the map, and relevant menus as if it had never existed. You will not receive any materials back from the outpost, so be 100% certain that you want to remove it.
However, any assigned Starfield crew and Starfield companions will simply be unassigned, so you don’t have to worry about losing these members of your team. If you want to use them again, simply reassign them to another base or ship.
How to increase the number of outposts you can build in Starfield
To increase the number of outposts you can build in Starfield, unlock and rank up the Planetary Habitation skill. This is a tier four Science skill, so it will take some time to unlock it.
By default, you can only establish eight outposts. This might sound like a lot, but if you’re an avid builder then you’ll quickly fill these slots up. Luckily there is a way to increase the number of outpost slots you have through leveling up the Planetary Habitation skill. At Planetary Habitation rank four, you can build a maximum of 48 outposts.
That covers how to delete an outpost in Starfield, including what happens when you do and how to increase the number of outposts you can build. With fully equipped outposts, you’ll have plenty of room to store all the best Starfield weapons and Starfield armor you’ll have collected.
