Star Wars fans continue to revel in the spoils of Lucasfilm, as games like Star Wars Jedi Survivor and Respawn’s untitled Star Wars FPS head to consoles. The latter has been shrouded in mystery since its announcement, but new rumours claim that Respawn’s Star Wars FPS could be a multiplayer bonanza. With Apex Legends and Titanfall 2 on their resumé, galactic FPS battles could be on the cards.
In January last year, Electronic Arts and Lucasfilm officially announced the development of a brand new Star Wars FPS game. Focusing on a single-player narrative, the upcoming title will come from Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment. According to the EA blog post from 2022, work on the title had only just begun at the time of its confirmation. Since then, word on the Respawn Star Wars FPS game has been quiet.
Now, we had a new piece of information to dive into, which teases the potential of a multiplayer component in the game. As noted by Emopulse, a recent job listing indicates that Respawn is looking for a “Senior Gameplay Software Engineer” with “experience working on a multiplayer game.” However, it appears the listing has since been altered to remove this mention.
The developer is yet to announce any multiplayer aspects. Nonetheless, the opportunity to offer more Star Wars FPS thrills is open wide, as the last true Star Wars FPS multiplayer experiences were seen in Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Star Wars: Squadrons.
Respawn Entertainment is known for its work on multiplayer hits like Titantfall 2 and Apex Legends. The former was acclaimed for its addictive and intense online skirmishes. It’s possible that the Respawn Star Wars FPS could feature conquest or PvE modes like Star Wars Battlefront 2. We’ll just have to see what Respawn has under its sleeve.
