The PS Plus May 2024 lineup of free-to-claim games has finally been revealed, with four excellent games up for grabs on PS4 and PS5 on Tuesday, May 7. This time around Destiny 2 Lightfall, FC 24, Ghostrunner 2, and Tunic will become available for subscribers across all three tiers of the service: Premium, Extra, and Essential, treating you to some truly fabulous experiences.
Featuring standout picks from our best games list, PlayStation is cooking up something fierce this month. Whether you’re in the mood for one of the best sports games out there, are itching to get into one of the best free shooting games on the market, or are angling for an indie fix, this month’s list of freebies won’t disappoint.
Although our Destiny 2 Lightfall review was a bit of a mixed bag, space game developer Bungie has since put in a shift to bring the long-running MMO back to the height of its powers ahead of the Destiny 2 The Final Shape release date next month. Now more approachable than ever thanks to the ongoing New Light update, this is the perfect time to get yourself locked in for D2’s (hopefully) thrilling finale.
It’s also an opportune time to get into FC 24, with the best soccer game on the planet – I’d certainly give it that title based on my FC 24 review – currently in the throes of its Team of the Season Ultimate Team promotion. What’s more, the announcement blog says PS Plus members can also snag a free FC 24 Ultimate Team starter pack, offering up “11 untradeable players rated 82 or above, alongside one of football’s all-time greats as an Icon Loan Player Pick for seven games” – unbelievable scenes.
If you’ve got a need for speed and not the kind that goes ‘vroom vroom’, then you need to give Ghostrunner 2 a try. The frenetic, speedrunning platform shooter is one of the best games I’ve played in recent times, iterating positively on everything that I loved about the original. A pretty hardcore experience, to say the least, it may take you a hot minute to get used to the cadence of Ghostrunner 2’s gameplay. However, when you get going, you won’t be able to stop.
Finally, if you’re a sucker for cute animals cosplaying as Zelda, then Tunic is the game for you. However, don’t be fooled by its cuddly exterior, as the isometric action-adventure game’s challenging combat is reminiscent of some of the best Soulslike games. If you simply want to vibe along with your tiny anthropomorphic homie, then the good news is you can toggle aids like unlimited health and stamina in its accessibility menu. I wouldn’t say Tunic’s the hardest game out there based on my own playthrough, but it’s always good to see games catering to different ability levels.
