There’s nothing quite the like thrill of soaring through the skies in Ace Combat 7, the most recent entry in the beloved Bandai Namco franchise. And like many, we’ve been enjoying its blistering action on PS Plus for months. However, as Sony prepares to shake up the current roster of PS Plus games next month, it means that some titles are unfortunately on the chopping block. And Ace Combat 7 Skies Unknown is one of those games.
The next wave of free PS Plus games is on the way, but before Sony unleashes another batch of bangers, you need to get Ace Combat 7 into your library right now. The Ace Combat franchise has been going strong since 1995, but Skies Unknown is outright superb. Not only does it include VR capabilities, but it showcases some of the slickest aerial combat that PS4 and PS5 players can experience.
You don’t need to worry about realism here, as Ace Combat 7 maintains an arcade-like feel, focusing on high-octane dogfights and satisfying traversal. The good news is you don’t necessarily need prior experience with these games, as they are very easy to pick up, although hard to master. And that’s where a lot of the reward comes from playing, as you figure out how to command your aircraft with a combination of style and skill. Not only is it one of the best games to download on your PS5, but it is perfect for fans of cinema’s leading movie star: Tom Cruise.
That’s because Ace Combat 7 introduced DLC to coincide with the release of Top Gun Maverick, adding a range of aircraft seen in the billion-dollar hit. If speeding into battle in Tom Cruise’s plane isn’t for you, then there are over 28 different aircraft to choose from and customize. Ace Combat 7’s story leaves a lot to be desired, but we don’t know about you but aren’t exactly playing it for the story.
As aforementioned, Ace Combat 7 is leaving PS Plus alongside several other games. If you’re curious as to what the full line-up of games set to leave is, we’ve got everything you need to know here. With so many new PS5 games joining and leaving PS Plus, we’re also thinking of the titles set to debut in 2024.
Sony is rumored to be holding another State of Play presentation soon, so here are our predictions for the games we want to see appear.
