With the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet release date fast approaching, a new gameplay trailer for the game has been released, which debuts three brand new Pokémon: a pair of fiery, version-exclusives, and a dopey yet feisty new crab ‘mon.
Let’s discuss those version exclusives first: Armarouge (available in Pokémon Scarlet) and Ceruledge (available in Pokémon Violet). These humanoid Pokémon, which don’t look too dissimilar body type-wise from the likes of Bisharp or Gallade, seem to be either mythical or legendary creatures, and are likely linked to the other version exclusives Koraidon and Miraidon, as they share similar colour schemes.
Armarouge is a Fire/Psychic-type that is heavily armoured on its top half. It can hold its arms together to form a cannon, from which its powerful Fire-type move Armor Cannon can be performed.
Meanwhile, Fire/Ghost-type Ceruledge takes on a knight-inspired appearance, with huge blades attached to its arms. Its Fire-type signature move is called Bitter Blade.
These were not the only new Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Pokémon to be announced, however – we also have another meme-worthy newcomer in Klawf. We’ve had our fair share of kinda goofy crab Pokémon in the past with Crabrawler and Krabby, and now we’ve got one more.
Klawf is a pure Rock-type, and has a new ability called Anger Shell that lowers its defense and special defense but increases attack and special attack when its HP is below half. He may look a bit dopey, but Klawf clearly isn’t to be messed with.
A giant Klawf, dubbed the Stony Cliff Titan, also appears in the trailer. It appears that hunting down and defeating Titans will be the narrative for the Path of Legends storyline, which is one of three distinct storylines in Scarlet and Violet.
There were also some returning Pokémon spotted for the first time in the trailer, such as Torkoal and Sunflora. You can check out every one that’s been spotted so far in our Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Pokédex guide.
