If you’re enjoying Mortal Kombat 1, but you’re still suffering from its bizarre ‘Player One advantage’ issues, we have some very good news for you. While you may still experience Player 1 advantage in Mortal Kombat 1 for the time being, NetherRealm Studios is actively investigating the issue. So, with any luck, the next major MK1 title update will fix everything.

We know this goes without saying, but Mortal Kombat 1 really does have the potential to be one of the best fighting games of all time. It’s graphically exceptional, the Mortal Kombat 1 fatalities are some of the best we’ve seen from the series, and almost all of the Mortal Kombat 1 characters you can fight as are wonderfully portrayed (sorry Nitara!) However, there’s a real reason you’re missing your combos in Mortal Kombat 1 and it’s not even your fault. So, it’s hard to praise the game as a whole when it’s so fundamentally broken.

Thankfully, though, it might not be this broken for much longer. As highlighted by the official WB Games Bug Reporting site for Mortal Kombat 1, the “Player 1 advantage” issue is sporting the “Investigation in Progress” status. We don’t know how far into that investigation NetherRealm Studios is, but we can imagine it’s quite high on the studios’ list of priorities – it really is quite a big issue for a fighting game where each frame can make a difference.

If you want to know why this is such a big issue in Mortal Kombat 1, you just need to check out the video below. As you can see, there are some combos in Mortal Kombat 1 that Player Two just can’t execute – no matter which side of the stage they’re on, either. It’s a strange issue to have, but one that, in theory, impacts almost every single player in the game – at some point.

Other Mortal Kombat 1 issues like Mileena’s mouth glitching during Sub Zero fatalities and Sareena’s broken boomerang are also currently under investigation. Although, there’s no timeline on any of these fixes – yet. Some of them, though, like the fact that one Geras brutality spawns a second Geras, don’t really need fixing in our opinion. We all like Geras now, right?

If you’re avoiding online matchmaking until this issue is solved, why not check out these impressive fan-made Mortal Kombat 1 Invasion mode maps and explore this single-player mode instead? You can unlock a killer Roomba if you do, which is pretty fun. Invasion mode is a great place to practice your Mortal Kombat 1 combos, too.
