MK1 fans don’t have long to claim seasonal cosmetics they’re missing

Mortal Kombat 1 players don't have long to make the most of Season 1 and the seasonal cosmetics available before Season 2 kicks off.

If you want more from Mortal Kombat 1, you’re in luck. The next major title update is almost here and with it comes a whole new season of MK1 content for fighting game fans to enjoy. While exciting, that does also mean that you really don’t have long to claim any seasonal cosmetics you’re missing; the Mortal Kombat 1 Season 1 end date is right around the corner.

We know quite a few Mortal Kombat 1 fans have a list of things they would like to see NetherRealm Studios improve upon in future title updates, but the way this veteran fighting game developer is handling seasonal content isn’t nearly as bad as it could be. At the moment, every single one of the Mortal Kombat 1 characters available has a selection of seasonal cosmetics players can unlock using a seasonal currency. We know a system like this isn’t a determining factor when it comes to deciding whether MK1 is one of the best fighting games out there or not, but it is something that offers players more freedom than a traditional battle pass system – which is far from a bad thing.

That does mean, though, that there’s quite a lot for players to unlock – at least in this first season of content – with around five cosmetics available for each character, at least. There’s 130 in total, when you tally it up, with prices ranging from 250 to 4,000 Seasonal Kredits. If, out of all those seasonal cosmetics, there’s still a few things you want to get your hands on, you really don’t have long to get them. The Mortal Kombat 1 Season 2 release date is a lot closer than you might think.

In fact, as in-game prompts suggest, the first season will end on Thursday, November 9, 2023. And, in the absence of confirmation from NetherRealm Studios, reliable leaker ‘interloko‘ reports that the second season will kick off straight away. This will coincide with the Mortal Kombat 1 Omni-Man release date – for those of you with the Mortal Kombat 1 Kombat Pack, anyway. As far as we know, your Seasonal Kredits should carry over – but it’s not guaranteed.

As you can see for yourself in the trailer above, Omni-Man looks like a fantastic addition to the roster – whether you like the animated series Invincible or not. Will he be one of the best Mortal Kombat 1 characters when he arrives, though? Well, only time will tell. Although, recent leaks claim Omni-Man is one of only two Mortal Kombat 1 fighters with an incredibly over-powered move. So, we have high hopes.

If you’re looking forward to adding a new Kameo fighter to your roster, though, you’re going to have to wait a little bit longer. Ahead of the next major title update, Mortal Kombat 1 confirms that new Kameo fighter Tremor is dropping over a week after Omni-Man – on November 20, 2023. Many expected the two to release simultaneously. He is going to be available through the Kombat Pack, if you have that, or as an individual purchase.

We don’t know how much NetherRealm Studios is going to charge players just yet, but we can’t imagine he will be as much as additional fighters cost. Shang Tsung is $7.99 at the moment, which is far too much for a Kameo fighter – even if it is Tremor. Will he be one of the best Mortal Kombat 1 Kameo fighters when he arrives, though, and worth the money? Well, it’s hard to say right now; Cyrax is still an excellent choice.

We know Halloween was the perfect time for NetherRealm Studios to win back Mortal Kombat 1 fans (and it sort of blew it), but this next season could be the start of a turning point. This is the first time we’re going to see how NetherRealm Studios plans to refresh content with each season, and – with any luck – it won’t be too disappointing.
