Mortal Kombat 1 resurrects this ancient Nintendo-exclusive character

Mortal Kombat 1's fighter roster sees your favorites return for battle, but the MK1 Kameo Fighter list includes a character hardcore fans will love.

Mortal Kombat 1 Kameo Fighters SDCC 2023 leak

Whether you’re a Scorpion master or a Liu-Kang pro, Mortal Kombat 1 has a generous amount of fighters to experiment with. Alongside the growing list of Mortal Kombat 1 characters are the Mortal Kombat 1 Kameo Fighters – a new feature for the NetherRealm Studios fighter. If you’re wondering who will make the roster, a breakdown of the recent San Diego Comic-Con panel reveals an unexpected arrival in the arena.

Avid Mortal Kombat player and YouTuber ‘Dynasty’ delves into a document from Warner Brothers that details the SDCC 2023 panel in further detail, revealing that additional MK1 Kameo Fighters will include the following fighters:

  • Ferra
  • Johnny Cage
  • Khameleon
  • Mavado
  • Tremor

The inclusion of Khameleon has our interest piqued, as the character was previously featured as a hidden character in the Nintendo 64 version of the original Mortal Kombat trilogy. Since then, the fighter has appeared in MK Armageddon, however only in the Nintendo Wii version. We’re spotting a theme here. Other than also popping up in Mortal Kombat Mobile, Khameleon’s role in Mortal Kombat 1 could be a turning point for newcomers to discover this obscure character.

While Johnny Cage has been seen in plenty of promotional material for the game, the other fighters are an eclectic bunch of characters. Mavado made his debut in Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance back in 2002 but hasn’t had any major appearances since then, aside from a handful of cameos (or Kameos, we should say).

Tremor finally got their due in Mortal Kombat X, after appearing as an NPC and PS Vita exclusive character in MK Special Forces and Mortal Kombat (2011) respectively. Ferra is back from Mortal Kombat X, after serving Kotal Khan as a personal bodyguard. A symbiotic entity, Ferra is accompanied by Torr in MK X, a large brute that she often sits atop. Quite the friendship indeed.

Just like previous games, the possibilities for Kameo Fighters and Kombat Pack additions are sure to spark your imagination. We’ve already seen that the first MK1 Kombat Pack will feature Homelander, but will NetherRealm Studios tap into classic movies like it did with Robocop and The Terminator in the past?

It’d be excellent to see more of that zany enthusiasm running rampant. Who knows, maybe we’ll get a Kombat Pack featuring John Wick in the future.

The Mortal Kombat 1 release date isn’t too far away now, and we’re already scouring those brutal Mortal Kombat 1 fatalities until the game arrives. But if you’re eager to get in on the action already, you can check out the Mortal Kombat 1 pre-orders, which include some pretty gnarly treats.
