Spider-Man 2 map reveal still leaves burning question unanswered

New Spider-Man 2 PS5 gameplay arrives following the recent State of Play showcase, but the Spider-Man 2 map reveal leaves out one important aspect.

Insomniac Games expands upon New York City in Spider-Man 2, and we don’t just mean with graphical enhancements. The Spider-Man 2 map is double the size it was in previous Spider-Man PS5 games, but despite new areas to explore, Insomniac is yet to clarify whether we can visit an iconic NYC landmark in one of 2023’s highly anticipated upcoming PS5 games.

The recent State of Play showcase brings us fresh Spidey delights, including a better look at the Spider-Man 2 map. However, as impressive as the scale will be for returning Marvel fans, Insomniac Games still doesn’t confirm if the State of Liberty is reachable. “Our city has nearly doubled in size with an additional two iconic boroughs, Queens and Brooklyn,” says senior creative director Bryan Intihar.

The Statue of Liberty, located on Liberty Island, was visible in Marvel’s Spider-Man but out of reach for the player. Some players have inevitably found exploits to reach it in-game, but the island lacks any worthwhile detail or physics for Spider-Man to interact with. The legendary landmark was featured in Treyarch’s Spider-Man 2 back on the PlayStation 2, encouraging players to discover a secret method involving helicopters to reach it.

Players like YouTuber ‘The ELT Network‘, as pictured above, have reached it via exploiting the first game. Yet, for Spider-Man 2, not only is this a piece of NYC history, but the Statue of Liberty’s presence more recently in the climatic battle of Spider-Man No Way Home makes it an ideal time to include it. We’re also a sucker for a good photo, so using all the Spider-Man 2 suits in a few great Liberty Island screenshots sounds like a good time to us.

Maybe a battle with one of the Spider-Man 2 villains is on the cards at the NYC staple? Either way, while it remains unclear ahead of the Spider-Man 2 release date, we do know that other locations from Spider-Man history are set to appear.

Intihar also confirms that “we’re [Insomniac Games] also delivering locales like Peter Parker’s old stomping ground Midtown High and Mile Morales’ current place of learning, Brooklyn Visions Academy.” We’ve seen Midtown High in the story trailer, as Peter goes to visit childhood friend Harry Osborn – one of many new additions in the Spider-Man 2 characters roster. Miles Morales’ school will surely be a fun place to visit, and will likely contain a few easter eggs to uncover.

For now, you still have plenty of time to get your Spider-Man 2 pre-order locked in, granting you access to exclusive suits in the process.
