The EU West League of Legends server just passed the 3 million player mark

The ranked server for players in the EU West region has passed 3 million summoners, seeing a 500,000 player increase this year

League of Legends LEC Summer Finals

The League of Legends ranked server for the EU West region has just passed a massive milestone, welcoming its 3,000,000th summoner.

One eagle-eyed Reddit user noticed that the number of players in the server displayed on OP.gg had just ticked over the 3 million mark on October 25. At the beginning of the year, there were approximately 2.5 million people in the server, meaning there’s been a growth in the EU West player base of around half a million. That’s pretty impressive for a game that has just celebrated its 10th anniversary.

Excluding Chinese and Southeast Asian servers (which aren’t owned by Riot), EU West is the second-most populated server behind Korea. Combined with players from the EU Nordic and East server, there are around 4.5 million ranked European players in total, showing how popular the game is in the continent. All three European teams at Worlds 2019 – Fnatic, Splyce and G2 – also made it out of the group stages, so it’s been a real period of celebration for European LoL fans and players.

Those who like to keep track of the ranked ladder will have noticed that in recent days there has been a few new names cropping up in the top ten in EU West. That’s because four members of Korean LoL team DAMWON Gaming – who are in Europe competing at Worlds – have been solo queuing in their downtime and tearing up the opposition.

In fact, the highest ranked player in EU West right now is DAMWON’s Kim ‘Canyon’ Gun-bu.

The fact that LoL numbers are continuing to climb at such a high rate will make encouraging reading for Riot.

League of Legends is still one of the most watched games on streaming platforms such as Twitch and is the world’s most popular esport. With everything going its way, it’s surely only a matter of time before we’re celebrating 4 million summoners!
