Horizon has become one of Sony’s biggest series in recent years, with Horizon Forbidden West for PS5 and PS4. Now, the series is making the jump to VR, with Horizon Call of the Mountain for Sony’s next-generation PSVR 2 headset.
Unveiled at CES 2022, Horizon Call of the Mountain is developed by Guerrilla Games, which shepherded the series’ creation, and new PlayStation Studios team, Firesprite, which has worked on PSVR titles in the past like The Persistence. It is clear Sony is positioning Horizon Call of the Wild to be one of the big games for the PSVR 2 headset during its early life, but what do we know about the game so far?
Where is the game set? Do you play as Aloy? And, most importantly, when can we expect a Horizon Call of the Mountain release date? Read on for a full rundown of everything Sony has revealed about the VR adventure so far.
Horizon Call of the Mountain release date
When is Horizon Call of the Mountain coming out? Sony hasn’t given us any indication of when we can expect the Horizon Call of the Mountain release date. However, it is clearly pitching the game as a big launch-window title for PVSR 2, so we could see it release around the time the new headset launches.
PSVR 2 is speculated to launch in Fall 2022, so we could see the game release alongside the headset, or shortly after in early 2023.
Will Horizon Call of the Mountain include Aloy?
In short, yes. Horizon Call of the Mountain will feature Aloy and a number of other returning and new characters.
But, you won’t be playing the game as Aloy. Instead you will meet these individuals as the game’s new protagonist which will be revealed “soon”.
Horizon Call of the Mountain Gameplay
We have unfortunately seen very little Horizon Call of the Mountain gameplay so far.
The only slice of gameplay we have seen came at the end of the game’s reveal trailer which had a character talking to the game’s new protagonist.
Horizon Call of the Mountain PSVR 2 Features
Unveiled alongside the PSVR 2 specs, Horizon Call of the Mountain will make full use of the new system’s features, including the high-quality visuals on offer.
Alongside its reveal, the game has been confirmed to utilise the new PSVR 2 Sense controllers, which feature haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Therefore, you can expect a similar amount of use as to what will be included in the upcoming Horizon Forbidden West.
That covers everything we know so far about Horizon Call of the Mountain. For more on the Horizon series, check out the latest news ahead of the Horizon Forbidden West release date. If you are looking for more PS5 games to play, peruse through our list of the best PS5 games on Sony’s new system.
